If you're reading this it's because you need to stay in Hanoi for cheap. Hanoi has a zillion little places, but you can stop looking - this is the one. I have been all over the world and this is easily the nicest service I have ever gotten for such a cheap rate. They knew my name, they helped me when I was sick, arranged anything I needed, had a fantastic breakfast and were just extremely kind and helpful. The family works hard and makes you feel like you're at home. I can't recommend this place enough! The rooms are fantastic as well. Awesome shower and super soft beds. Very spacious and very clean.

Great location in the old quarter, good size room and bathroom with strong hot shower. Bonus of computer and safe in room! The staff are just amazing... I have never experienced such helpful people in a hotel. They were there to make your stay as easy as possible right from the airport pick up. They go out of their way to welcome you, give you inside knowledge and plan your stay and even further trips! They spend time showing you everything you should know right from what the local money looks like to how much to pay for a taxi to what food looks like and where to get the best dishes. Breakfast was good too! A really special little family run hotel. Would definitely recommend and re visit!

We booked a 6D/5N package with Finnegans Hotel based on the good reviews on TA. It was based on pure faith that we hope this establishment could deliver. Well it did- almost. But yes, we were very happy with our stay in Finnegans Hotel. Right upon arrival at the airport to where Mr Viet & Ty met us at the main road to bring us to the hotel located on the side street. We were also pleasantly surprised by the welcome drink and fruit platter brought to our rooms. The brief by Mr Viet to explain the do's & don'ts and the must eat or see was vital for first timers like us. That really gave us the confidence to explore the wonderful side of the old quarters in Hanoi. That night we managed to secure front row seating for the water puppet show, thanks to Ms Hanh who made the booking for us in advance.

The following morning we were picked up promptly from Finnegans for the overnight Halong Bay cruise onboard Alova Gold Cruise. The guide (Kien) and cruise manager (Muoi) were both professional and competent in looking after our cruise needs - see separate review for Alova Gold Cruise.

When we returned the following day from Halong Bay, we were given a room to freshen up and repack our luggage in preparation for the overnight train ride from Hanoi to Lao Cai/ Sapa- very nice and thoughtful of Finnegans Hotel. Mr Ty escorted us all the way to the train station right up to our allocated berth- that was awesome! Needless to say, the same standard of service was evident when we arrived at Lao Cai when a transport was waiting for us to bring us to Royal Hotel in Sapa when we were given a transit room to freshen up and breakfast at the restaurant later. Ms Hanh engaged a local H'mong tribe guide who spoke fluent english for the Sapa trek. Once again, Royal Hotel gave us a room to freshen up after the trek when we were all sticky and muddied. This particular arrangement is important, please keep it up.

Sadly, there were no more rooms at Finnegans Hotel upon our return the following morning from Lao Cai to Hanoi. In fact, Ms Hanh was very thoughtful to have called me the day before our departure to enquire about my departure timing so that she arranged for the taxi to bring us to the airport. If we had knew, we would have book the lobby room for 1 night before returning from Sapa. Perhaps the use of the lobby room for guest to freshen up on the last day, subject to availability, should be briefed to all guest to prevent future misunderstanding? Nevertheless, we are very appreciative that we were given a place to freshen up in the restaurant.

To all these, despite the last day hiccup, we say, "Well Done". If this service standard were to be maintained, there is no reason to see a continuous retention of loyal customers and new ones just by the word of mouth recommendation.

Room Tip: We took the rooms with the window. A lot more quieter. But if you want to enjoy the hustle & bus...

We loved our stay at Finnegans, the hotel is in a great location, the family that runs the hotel goes above and beyond to advise you and make your stay truly as though you feel at home.

They even put on a great New Year's Eve dinner for all the guests, which was a great touch.

I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Hanoi!

Service, service, service. We used Finnegans as our base while in Northern Vietnam. Han and Viet assisted us with visa introductions first of all. They helped us with reservations to Sapa and Ha Long Bay. When we arrived in Hanoi, which is a bit overwhelming in those first minutes, Viet gave us tea and then sent us to a cool little barbecue place just around the corner. Only in hindsight do I realize that we did not have to cross a street to get there.

The rooms are especially clean and comfortable. The internet was very reliable.

Location in the old quarter is a 1/2 block off of Ma May, on a little street to narrow for cars so the staff was there when the cab arrived to carry bags.

It was a great experience.

Room Tip: We splurged for the larger room on the street side, floor 4 and then 5.

Nice owner, very friendly and helpful, also his wife and brother.
The room was clean. For a good sleep, you need ohropax!

Unfortunately we had a little bit troubles with our Transfer to ninh binh. At First, the owner was very helpful by booking the transfer via a touristic bus, without guidedtour. 11km away from our hostel, the driver didnt want to bring us to ninh binh city. They persuaded us to take a guidedtour tour! Because we didn't want to do the tour, they was very pissed and told us, to pick our backpacks and go to another Bus. Fortunately we found a Taxi, which bring us to our hostel.
