Came here in September 2013 with my wife. Overall it's ok, the main selling point is the location in the middle of the old quarter, if you're into that. Friendly staff but several things were pretty disappointing - no windows (that brought in any light) in the room (which was 'deluxe'), the swimming pool is the size of a bath tub, and most annoyingly there were building works going on. The noise really was a distraction from our room - I wouldn't mind but the hotel didn't say it was undertaking building works anywhere until you got there. They said that they wouldn't start until 8.30am but they started at 7.30. Also, they don't make up rooms until after 2, which seems bizarre. There's a gym which has a treadmill, some weights and some bizarre vibrating machine that claims it burns about 100 calories per minute. No towels or water mind...

To be fair, the room was well presented and clean, the breakfast was pretty good and it didn't cost much. Overall, it's a hotel that will very much suit guests who want to be in the heart of the old quarter, don't spend any time in their room between 7.30 and 6 and don't want to go swimming.

Room Tip: Try and find one with a window and that's lower down - the building work is up top.

Dear Guests,

We are glad to receive your review regarding your stay with us back in September.

Regarding your comment about the room without window, we actually have described the Deluxe room to be with window but without the view “17 Deluxe rooms of Tirant hotel are furnished with windows (back of the house, no view is available)”. We are sorry that you were not acknowledged of the description. However, if you had let us know of your discomfort, we could have either offered you another room type at discount room rates or switched you into another room at different location.

Furthermore, the construction is supposed to be a fix up for our roof-top pool which was affected by drainage problem from the rain season and was due to be finished in early September. For now, everything has been completed and the roof-top bar as well as the pool have been running smoothly. I’m sorry that your vacation was disturbed by the renovation.

For the in-house gym, we do not provide water and towel inside the gym as we do change towel and provide free bottle of water in room for you every day as well as on request.

I hope that by honestly explaining ourselves, we would ease part of your concern and that you would consider us to continue being your choice of accommodation once you revisit Hanoi.

Best regards,

Customer Service Personnel

We had booked a classic double room. When we arrived we found it too small. They were good enough to upgrade us whilst waiving the upgrade fee, probably because there was renovation going on! We were apologetically informed about it. However, we were not disturbed at all by any noise. The room we were given was good, however there was no window. I would recommend requesting a room with a window. The hotel is in the interesting bustling Old Quarter, which is a plus point for me. There is a lake near-by which is lovely to stroll by, and prettily lit at night. Hotel staff was good, friendly, eager to please. Rooms and hotel was clean.

The hotel is located centrally in the busy, noisy and exciting old quarter. We stayed in the hotel on two separate occasions, and - as noted by others - the classic rooms are fairly small, whereas the deluxe rooms are of decent size. The service was very well, except when we handed in some lanundry and they charged us double for express service even though we did not ask for it (this is apparently the default if you do not specify otherwise). The rooftop terrance is currently under renovation, so the pool area is currently rather noisy and the surroundings look messy. The breakfast is decent, but the connected restaurant next door should be avoided (there is far better food to be had at far lower prices almost anywhere in the old quarter).

Great hotel, close to all the action. The staff organised a day trip for us which was fantastic.
They also recommended a walking food tour which was great. The hotel was having work done on the top floor which meant we couldn't use the restaurant on the top floor, this was due to the major flooding in Vietnam last month.
Would certainly go back there

The best in this hotel is the location as it is placed in the Old Quartier close to the lake.
You can just walk around and shop in the many stores around!

The staff was good, despite for concierge James, which was excellent! He helped us a lot regarding the Halong Bay cruise we wanted to go.

But rooms are just ok, as well the breakfast, nothing too much special.

One of the days it was my birthday and my girlfriend asked the staff for a surprise cake. They said they will provide as it is a normal procedure.
Unfortunately, they simply forgot about it... and my girlfriend was really upset with this situation.

The Lake View Lounge was also not available for that period!

We enjoyed our stay at Tirant Hotel. It was great value for money. We were given a complimentry upgrade fro the Classic room to a Delux one, that was much appreciated as the Classic would have been too small. The one thing we sorely missed were windows!!! The travel desk must be recommended as great effort was made for each guest. The service was good and the staff was always willing to help. The Skybar unfortunately was under renovation.

The Food at the hotel was nice and we enjoyed a few meals there. Traffic in Hanoi was horrendous !!

Excellent service, spacious rooms, good food and great location...we booked on line and the best part is they offer tours of the places around Hanoi. The location is great as it is right in the center of Hanoi's old quarters where cheap shops and the wet market are located. It also has a roof deck where you can enjoy the Hanoi skyline at night while observing the traffic below. The lake is just two blocks away so everything is just a short walk away...
