“Unfortunate name Great Hotel”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

A huge thank you to the hotel and staff at the tyrant hotel. We returned from Hanoi yesterday and cannot speak highly enough of the hotel Tirant and it's staff.

The hotel is extremely well appointed and is in a great location in the old quarter . The room we ad was exquisite and the staff spoke great English and could not do enough for us.

The breakfast buffet food variety was Very good . Value for money is exceptional . The quality of the rooms would be equivalent of most five stars in Australia with a one star price .

Well done to the Tirant

Dear Dean H,

Thank you for sharing your experience. It was a pleasure for us to host you in Hanoi. Your satisfaction is our utmost reward for keeping up our good work. We hope that in your next visit to Hanoi, our hotel will still be your choice of accommodation.

Regarding your comments on our hotel brand name, we would like to clarify that "Tirant" has no association with "Tyrant" in English. "Tirant" is a French word. Our hotel location is on Gia Ngu street and in old time when the country is a French colony, many streets named in French. Dinh Liet street nearby was named "Ed’Endhal street" and Gia Ngu street was named as "Tirant street" at that time. Untill 1945, the government decided to change street name to "Gia Ngu" and this Vietnamese name is kept until now. Our hotel management approved hotel name as "Tirant Hotel" for remembrance of the history.

Once again, thank you for your good rating and we hope to see you again in a near future.

Yours sincerely,
Tirant Hotel Management

The Tirant is priced above your mini-hotel but the extra cost is worth it for the service, quality of rooms incl own computer in your room and/or strong (!) wi-fi signal and the helpfulness of staff. There were some renovations that were going on when I stayed so a bit of noise at times. The big plus here though is the staff - they are friendly, speak excellent English and can pretty much organise anything for you. Would stay here again.

We just left the Tirant hotel to fly home to Australia and were sent off by all the staff with the same friendly smiles as greeted us few days earlier.

This place is a real gem and we are so glad we stayed here. All the reviews that mention how friendly, helpful and professional the staff are ...we're not exaggerating. We found the staff here as good, if not better than the staff in the 5 star hotels that we stayed at in Vietnam. They made you feel welcome and no request was too hard....hints where to eat, shop and they booked restaurants for us. Even sending up to our room one of the restaurant's menu for us printed from the Internet.

Mandy the duty manager and on reception Don, Jenny, Sara and Gemma all deserve a special mention.

We stayed in a suite room on the 8th and on our return from Halong Bay another suite on the 7th floor which had a balcony. These were front rooms facing onto the street but the noise was not too bad at all. Good sound proofing. If you are a light sleeper I suggest you book a room at the back of the hotel and/above floor 4. The higher up you are the less you hear the street noise (car beeping and 7.30 government broadcast via loud speakers).

The hotel goes up to 8th floor and will have 63 rooms which should all be finished in time for the Grand opening on 15/1/13. They started with 34 rooms two years ago and now expanded the hotel to include a roof top swimming pool and bar (soon to open) and there will be two restaurants down on ground floor....a buffet which will also be used for breakfast and a new Vietnamese restaurant.

This will mean they have nearly all the facilities on offer at larger hotels but with that extra thing money cannot buy...friendliness and a real home away from home feel....not to forget the excellent location right inside the old part of Hanoi city.

Other highlights of our stay:
Getting our washing done at very reasonable price
Letting us leave our luggage there when we went to Halong Bay
Walking out into the street market outside the door
Booking taxis and telling the driver where to go
Le Pub which was just up the street and great for drinks while the roof top bar is being finished.

A wonderful stay in Hanoi much due to Tirant hotel and staff. We would stay there again if ever back in Hanoi.

Room Tip: Let them know if you are a light sleeper and they will do there best (if room is available) to give...

the hotel is well located. Easy access to many areas especially shopping. Yet it's located in a relatively quiet street. Not so many traffic.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. Very good customer service. And to our surprise they gave a birthday cake to my wife.

I don't expect this from a three star hotel.

This was a last minute booking via a third party website, nothing else seemed to be available. A bit pricier then the hotels around but worth the money. When we got there i forgot to mention we had a 2 year old with us..they offered us a cot bed ( a comfy large one) and upgraded us to a suite on the 7th floor at no extra cost. The Hotel is still going through renovation so it can get very noisy at times but only from 8am to 6pm (once it was 7.30 when we got back at the room and the works were still on so i asked the worker to stop personally)i didn't bother reporting this but they were aware of it and the receptionist later apologised.the staff was friendly and the room spacious, and the bathroom all renovated. Initially we saw a room on the 3rd floor before they upgraded us, it was also a good room, bear in mind this is in the old quarter and the roads are very narrow so you don't have any views unless you are on the 7th floor. Although very near the hustle they have double glazing so there is not much noise coming through. The breakfast is good and the views from the breakfast room on the 9th floor are great!! I definitely recommend this hotel.the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because there were some communications problems when we needed some things from them and found ourselves having to repeat things over and over and even making drawings of things!) but overall i think it is a good place to stay!

We spent two nights at the hotel in late November on a leisure trip. Our train arrived to Hanoi early morning so we were at the hotel at around 7am. The staff were welcoming and friendly, but they would not let us do early checkin. Apparently a room that we booked was not available and the only option we had was to pay for early check in for a room one level below what we originally booked. Since we didn't want to sit around the lobby for hours we decided to do that.

The room itself turned out to be quite big, clean and comfy. Everything in the bathroom was clean, new and worked the way it should. There was one issue with the complimentary fruit plate that is in the room when initially checking in. The Services Description booklet in the room states that it's a daily compliment, but we never received it again and the hotel staff were adamant that guests receive it at check in only. Well, the written info needs to be updated as not to mislead guests.
We also used the laundry service and our belongings were cleaned well and returned to us promptly. However, another issue we had is that even the "do not disturb" sign was on the outside of the door when we were out, the hotel staff entered the room and dropped off our laundry. I don't think that's appropriate.
The room had no window and was close to the elevator. It actually worked out well since no window meant no noise and the noise from the elevators didn't bother us. Renovations were still going on, but they started at 8am and finished at 6pm, as promised. Breakfast buffet had good selection, food service clean and great views from the terrace!
The location is great, right in the middle of the Old Quarter and numerous restaurants and shops surround the hotel within a couple of minutes of leisure walk.

Dear guest,

Thank you for taking your time to share your experience at Hanoi Tirant Hotel in such great details.

We are sorry that we could not allow an early check in on the day of your arrival as the room you originally booked was not available. Check-out time is at 12.00PM, thus we need previous guests check out of their room before you can check in. If there had been a room in the category that you booked available for early check in we could have allowed you to check in your room straight away. We appreciate your understanding on this matter.

Regarding your feedback about laundry return service, we acknowledge that it was our housekeeper's mistake. In fact, she was new to the job and unaware of "do not disturb" sign hanging on the door handle. Since there was nobody in the room, she thought it might be alright to enter your room. After our Front Desk supervisor received your report at the time of your stay, the staff has been given intensive training and her performance is under supervision.

Complimentary fresh fruit is available on the first day only. Thank you for your feedback regarding out of date information in one of our service description booklets. We have updated information and replaced new booklet in your room.

We appreciate your constructive comments. It certainly makes a significant contribution in improving our services and delivering everyday better, higher quality of stay.

Yours sincerely,
Tirant Hotel Management

I've stayed at the Tirant Hotel previously for business, and was happy to stay there again recently. The staff are extremely lovely, friendly and helpful, the hotel is in a great location in the Old Quarter and only a few minutes walk from Hoan Kiem lake, and the rooms are nice and spacious. Towels, soap and other toiletries are provided, the rooms are cleaned every day, and a delicious buffet breakfast is included. Wifi is available in the rooms, and there is also a computer with internet and a tv. There are currently renovations happening, though it's only noisy during the day and I wasn't bothered by it; they're due to finish soon anyway. Overall I had an excellent stay here, would definitely stay again, and would recommend it for anyone in Hanoi on business or holiday.
