“Good luxury hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2012

I love this hotel. It has all the luxury you can ask for. It was nearly a year ago I wnet there. And now when I tried to book the hotel for new year, it is fully booked. So, it has become popular and I heard the rate has doubled from the last time I paid for it.
I think they need to improve the gym and the swimming area, which has a nice location in the building but poorly neglected and boring to a certain extend.
Location of the hotel is great and near to the lake. you can always hoop to Sofitel across the road for a quick lunch or dinner.

Back in Hanoi and in de L' Opera Hotel again. Pat and I love this hotel. Here is my story. On our first return to Hanoi from Halong Bay, the cruise dropped us wrongly to D L' Opera. The bellboy googled our hotel and ensure the taxi get us there correctly. For that I tip him S$2. Thought that is impressive? He actually called the taxi as we are on our way and tell us that he call the Bellboy on our correct hotel to wait for us outside as the taxi cannot get in. Carrying 3 20Kg backpacks and a 10Kg baby, going through 500m of narrow lane to the hotel is not going to make it easier. Now I felt bad tipping only S$2.

Room Tip: All rooms faces the inner courtyard which is beautiful!

Wow, I don't know where to start my praising! I first read about the hotel in that beloved and stylish little city guide. We'd stayed at the grande dame up the street before, and wanted to stay there again but the price point was too out of line with the rest of our SE Asia hotels. Trusting that little guide's recommendations implicitly, and confirming via TA reviews, I booked. About a month before our trip their parent corp announced an amazing holiday sale, and for the same price as our deluxe room I was able to snag the suite as long as I prepaid. Done.

We arrived after many long flights, delighted to walk out of customs to see the hotel car's driver holding a sign with our name. Yes, their car service is more expensive than a taxi and some other hotels' pricing for airport car service. But it's also less than a taxi from SFO home, and there's a lot to be said for hopping into the back of a Mercedes with wet towels and bottled water waiting for you!

The hotel is spectacular at so many levels - design, service, value, location. A few highlights as you consider your options:

-The suite is spectacular. Larger than my apartment in CA, view of the Opera House. Worth the splurge. We were not at all bothered by noise, despite being street side.

-The bed, as noted by others, is divine.

-Our rate included free drinks from 5-7 in the lounge, and we thoroughly enjoyed them every night.

-The breakfast buffet is every bit as good as at the grande dame. Check out the fried noodles in the atrium, included but not promoted.

-Staff are exceptional. Concierge procured symphony and Water Puppet (don't miss it!) tickets, seats were superb.

This hotel has everything we wanted, including the bonus of chic style and design. It competes with the best of NYC or London, yet at a fraction if the price. Highly recommended!

Around the corner from the Metropole and at a fraction of the price, the Hotel de l’Opera is in an ideal location for the best of the city, while also allowing for respite from the heavier traffic and congestion of Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter. Built in 2010 and kept at a crisp cool temperature, everything about the building is fresh and sparkling clean. The lobby and room interiors are beyond eclectic: Does every room need a white leather Louis XIV armchair alongside a pink velvet ottoman? We splurged on the lowest-end suite the proved far more giant than we anticipated, a luxury after many hours navigating street crossings. Perks included a claw tub next to the bed, a fantastic rain shower, an extra powder room, and more. Only the lighting—fed by countless banks of switches so complicated as to require an instructional visit from a hotel engineer—defeated us. A small kitchen was stylishly outfitted but it was a puzzle that the few quickly consumed coffee pods were not replenished each day. Breakfast, included in our room rate, consisted of a high-end buffet of muesli, smoked meats, noodles, steamed eggs, fine pastries, and exotic fruits. We regretted learning only on our last day that the a la carte menu items were also free of charge.

We stayed for 5 nights at the Hotel de L'opera end November 2012. We like to stay in comfort when we're travelling so we looked at competing hotels also, but most were either too expensive, or situated right in the hub of the Old Quarter, which we didnt want, as we'd heard it was noisy.
On the map of Hanoi, the hotel looks as though its quite a distance from the old town (where all the busy hub is) but its actually a really nice walk around the lake, only about 10-15 minutes, and we were so glad to be returning to our nice quiet hotel each night in the French Quarter, so were glad we booked there.

We arrived from Sydney at 11pm at night, 3am Sydney time so were impressed with the speedy check-in and to hear that we'd been upgraded because we were staying so many nights and they had the rooms free. The bed was super high, and firm, and huge. The bathroom was loud French styling, which added to the quirk of the hotel. Each night we had a small Vietnamese gift placed on the bed, waters refreshed, and L'Occitane bathroom products.
Breakfast was really yummy with loads of variety. I just wished they had more Vietnamese food on the menu and at the buffet, as we didnt come all the way from Australia to eat bacon and eggs and french sweets- but it was still tasty.
Only one complaint, was that the bathroom had a sewrage smell, but this was easily fixed by closing the bathroom door and it did fade during the days.

Nice quant hotel in Hanoi, as a frequent traveller I was lucky to be upgraded to a suite and get the car service to the airport. Modern inside with high end toiletries but the room smelt musky and you could see on one wall there was an issue with water damage.
