Certificate of Excellence

The Nova Hotel is small but perfectly located and very quiet. The service and friendliness provided by the staff were second to none. The facilities in the room were excellent, especially the huge bath which was a godsend after spending time trekking in Sapa and Mai Chau. This was absolutely the best hotel of my three week trip to Vietnam.

We stayed at Nova Hotel for 3 nights - our first hotel in Vietnam - and really enjoyed our stay here, Viet and his lovely staff were so welcoming, helpful, so thoughtful and considerate. I fell sick upon arrival, and Viet moved us to a room with a balcony because I wasn't well enough to go out. They also went out of their way to look after me while I was ill, while making sure the rest of the family got the most out of their stay in Hanoi by helping organise day trips etc Rooms are very clean and well appointed, and it's in a great location, right in the midst of everything. It was a wonderful introduction to Vietnam.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a great view, and noise is not a problem.

My wife and I stayed at Nova hotel for several nights and joined organized trips from there via its associated Vega travel agency to Sa Pa and Ha Long Bay.

The hotel is comfortable and the staff is amazingly helpful. They provided great advise and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant and get us to the nice places in town. They also provided luggage storage for nights that we were out on organized trips and transport back / forth from the airport.

We also recommend its associated travel agency (Vega travel) that stood out with high quality customer service and good pricing.

Overall a very pleasant experience.

Excellent hotel with superb staff and service. More than expected for the price! We only spent one night there but we greeted with free taxi to the hotel. The breakfast was very delicious and the room was much more than we expected with a huge balcony overlooking the city.

We stayed two nights at the Nova Hotel and went on the Vega Cruise to Ha Long Bay for one night. All of the experiences were an outstanding value and everyone that worked there truly went out of their way to help us in anyway they could. For anyone looking to travel in and around northern Vietnam on a mid-ranged budget, we highly recommend Nova Hotel and their entire staff.

The Nova hotel would have to be the worst hotel I have stayed in during my world travels in 35 years. The room we booked was their best room in the place apparently and we did this because of the raves on trip advisor. First impressions were that the staff were on the upsell for our potential travel plans before we had even unpacked. Pretty tacky guys. The room is only 5 metres wide and the amount of furniture including 2 double beds, wardrobe and fixed unit plus bar fridge made it uncomfortably squeezy, to the extent that my wife and I could not walk past each other anywhere in the room without one of us giving way.Not to mention that the only place to put our 2 suitcases was on the spare bed. The bathroom was dirty, with other peoples hair evident, a torn and trashed shower curtain, and evidence of faeces on the toilet roll holder. The airconditioner in the room had the vents coming out of the ceiling above the bed at the pillow end making it uncomfortable to sleep with the breeze blowing on your head, that is when it worked. There was a balcony included, but I doubt that it had seen a broom and mop for years. Very unattractive and dirty. Room cleaning staff need to be sacked or shown how to do their job. Breakfast normally starts at 7 am and cleaners assume everyone is dining at that time, hence one morning whilst my wife and I were in bed sleeping, the door was opened and in barge the cleaners. No knocking, no nothing. Absolutely disgracefull.. To add insult to injury, there was a family of rats that lived in the ceiling making sleeping challenging. As for the restaurant there were no surprises here either. The term restaurant is over stated here. It should be a cafe. I have never had to fill out a form for items to have for breakfast. No matter what we put down on the form, my wife and I ended up with the same items for breakfast. Often saw staff going in and out of the hotel carrying plates and bowls of food, prepared else where off site. It looked like they were only capable of eggs and coffee. In the restaurant the staff often have the TV blasting away on some local channel making the dining experience all the more memorable. The breakfasts were terrible, and we never bothered having any other meals there. I forgot to add that the aircon in the lobby and restaurant was rarely switched on making it horrible eating in 30 degree heat at 7 am. As mentioned earlier another put off was being grilled by senior staff, including the manager about our travel plans on each day, where were we going?, when, and why, how much etc. Not very professional. In the hotels defence, the front desk staff, and Miss Ly Ly were so helpfull and giving to any of our requests.
In summary, staying at this hotel was the worst decision in accomodation in our 4 weeks in vietnam and totally spoilt the tail end of our trip.
As for the raves and praise that this place gets, I fail to understand how this can be. Maybe the backpackers are accustomed to staying in rat infested dog boxes, or are just being polite on this one. At $56 AUD per night for the best room, it should be about $10 per night. Save your money and avoid this place like the plague.
