Our hotel in Hanoi arranged this tour for us at quite short notice after we decided we fancied doing something different on our last day. We were picked up from our hotel by a lovely lady called Trang who was an excellent tour guide, her personality, enthusiasm and her great knowledge helped make the tour such a great experience.

It was a walking tour and along with two other couples we walked the old streets of Hanoi, regularly stopping at a restaurant or cafe or shop for our next part of the tour. Along the way Trang also shared other information about Hanoi with us including cultural practices as well as the foodie elements. We are huge foodies and we absolutely loved this experience.

The tour last around 3 hours in which time we got to sample some amazing specialities of Hanoi food culture all which were included in the price of the tour which we found to represent excellent value for money. The other people in our group were friendly and we had a good laugh with them on the tour.

We did the tour on our last morning in Hanoi, we wished we had booked it for our first day in Hanoi as I think it gave us a lot more confidence to try local eateries and have a better understanding of what to look out for and what to try.

If you love food and if you want an excellent introduction to the food of Hanoi and the Hanoi street culture then book this tour as one of your first things to do in Hanoi.

We were recommended to go on the 'food on foot tour' by a friend. I am so glad we took action on the suggestion. The tour was excellent value for money and they picked us up from the hotel. Our host Anthony was very well spoken, friendly and full of information. He took us to eight different street food stops and I think we had eleven dishes? Please go hungry as the food is very, very tasty and PLENTIFUL.
We had the best pho of our trip, a lovely Hanoi fish dish, some amazing duck, Coconut wine and much more. We ended with an amazing egg coffee - sounds strange but tasted like liquid tiramasu. Anthony took us to where the locals ate and drank, and these places were not in any of the guide books.
If you are curious about trying street food but worried about getting sick this is definitely the best option, as you eat at places which are clean but not touristy. I normally have quite a sensitive stomach and I did not experience any repercussions apart from feeling stuffed after eating way too much food!

We were picked up from our hotel by Trang - who has a very bubbly personality and appears to really love her job. We had an amazing night going from place to place trying our various foods and drinks and some that we would never have tried if we were on our own.
The frogs legs were nice, the rice wine was great but the biggest surprise of the night was the egg coffee. I never thought I would enjoy egg in coffee - but it was truly divine. Thank you Trang for a very memorable evening.

We didn't attend the cooking class but had lunch with Mr Anh at his homestay. He showed us around the mansion that used to be a restaurant and told us about the renovations he did to make it a homestay. He continually fed us with lots of different wines - rice wine, coconut wine and hanoi beer. We were amazed at the spread of food and tranquility of the location.

The Food on Foot tour is a perfect way to get accustomed to the food scene in Hanoi. Our guide for the night, Trang, was upbeat, informative, and an enthusiastic leader (and eater!). Her english was also excellent. She took us to about 8 locations and was willing to take us to more if any of us had the stomach space for it. If we had any questions about any other foods, she would immediately order it, which was a fun experience. She gave us a lot of info on Vietnamese food and culture as well. We especially loved the coconut jelly (thach dua), a dessert we never would have discovered without her guidance. At first, we were hesitant to do a food tour since we thought we could cover the street food scene ourselves, but after the tour, we were very glad we took the Food on Foot tour with Trang since it was one of the highlights of our trip. We would definitely do another food tour with them again.
