It was a short stay in Hanoi with our 3 year old before going further to the South, so we just picked up a basic 2 star hotel and paid a good "Deluxe room with balcony"-price. On our arrival the staff was very friendly and we were feeling welcomed. That was the only really positive thing in here. The room we got first was not at all the one we booked - it happened to be a Family room with tiny window to nowhere and on the 3rd floor with very steep stairs (who on earth choose such a location for a Family room??). However, after some talking with the hotel manager and complimentary tea & coffee, we got our desired so-called Deluxe - quite small, fungus on the walls, dark spots on the blanket, everything felt quite unclean. Balcony facing the street was a relief - although quite dirty, no furniture and making the room noisy. There is no restaurant in the hotel - just a few tables next to the reception where you can eat breakfast. Breakfast was basic - one choice per person from the list, cooked right here in a kitchen corner (soup pho ga brought from some street cafe). Overall the hotel itself and the rooms didn't look even close to the pictures on the hotel's web page - be aware when making your bookings. If we happen to come to Hanoi again - definitely will try something else.

i was a little worried before i went to Vietnam, but the worried feeling disappeared after i arrived at Moon Palace. it's warm and comfortable with good location, aslo the staff there are very friendly and helped me a lot for my tickets booking, let me feel happy there.

My husband and l spent seven nights here and felt very safe and welcome. We arrived at the hotel early 1030 am and were able to have our room after a short wait, offered complimentary drinks while waiting, and no extra charge for early admission, which was great. The staff were very obliging in anything that was needed, even went out especially to get special bagettes for breakfast which was very much appreciated at no extra cost.Full breakfast available and cooked freshly for you.A few language barriers but that added to the fun!! Our room was clean ,very comfortable bed, and great airconditioner,we had a balcony room which was noisy ,but great for street watching!! quieter rooms at rear of the hotel .Tours were a little expensive, but good, the hotel is family run and extremely friendly. Thankyou for a lovely stay

In general we had a great stay here in Moonshine palace. The staff was very kind. The tours they offered where really good value for money. The room itself was really big, nice furniture, comfortible bed. The only thing not so fine was the bathroom at our first stay, it was not clean enough for us. At our 2nd stay we had another room, there the bathroom was ok. I do not remember the room number, but just have a look at the room.... and you´ll be fine.
Breakfast was also very fine. You can choose, they offer different food/drinks you can choose from.

Room Tip: Take a look at bathroom before you accept the room

Everywhere in Hanoi it seems people are trying to part you from your money. If you don't take any crap, shop around and stand your ground you can get better deals. This hotel is no exception, but I would say they are honest people and they provide nice clean and comfortable rooms with internet available so I would recommend them- they seemed very friendly compared to some others I met.

Dont be fooled by the over friendly staff, they are out to rip you off when it comes to travel arrangements/tours. We paid 60USD each instead of the going rate ( which we discovered later) of 40-45USD for an open bus ticket and who knows how much we were over charged for Halong Bay! The hotel has several names- Blue Star Travel/ Backpackers Hotel/Moonshine- why do they need to keep changing their name, I wonder???

Room was actually OK, big but the bathroom was grotty and smelt of rotten eggs- not at all pleasant. Also family sleeping in the reception area and a lot of small children in the room downstairs- which could be noisy with crying.

Overall- not impressed, not at all professional and had the nerve to be soooo overly friendly to catch you when your guard is down.

This is a family run hotel situated in the heart of the old quarter in Hanoi. It was the first hotel we stayed in at the start of a six month trip and I still consider it to be one of the best. The family are very welcoming and helped us out considerably after we decided to shorten a trip to Sapa that we'd booked ourselves. We'd arranged an ongoing trip to Halong Bay through the hotel and when we requested to bring everything forward one day, they sorted out everything within a few hours of the request. The manager allowed us to use one of the bedrooms to rest and shower before going to Halong Bay and upon leaving to Hoi An (at no extra costs). They are a very honest family with good value trips (we checked around before booking with them). I highly recommend this hotel and thank them for our stay. The rooms were large, clean and quiet too, a very good breakfast included too.

Room Tip: At the back of the building away from the road.
