We were looking for a location that made walking the old quarters easy, was clean and a little character; we got it. The room we were in was nearly filled by the big but comfy bed; the bathroom was large but be aware, at least in our room the shower was just a handheld while sitting in a very deep but very SHORT for us caucasians bathtub. But I was happy there.
The staff were VERY friendly, bellhop went out of his way with helpfulness, staff gave us ideas about interesting places, such as traditional music, restaurants, taxi carefulness, and help when one tried to overcharge us, and when our room safe was found broken, it was immediately fixed for us. Held our luggage the last after check out day and let us use the spa showers for no extra charge.

I liked the buffet + breakfast. Lots of fresh choices, fresh and very fragrant, cinammony Pho every AM, freshly prepped omelets and lots of other choices, in AC cool but dark bar room.

If you are looking for location and adequate comfort, not elegance, I recommend this place.

Room Tip: Its a busy street, I'd ask to be away from the main street but didn't see rooms other than o...

Hanoi Boutique Hotel 1 (there is a Hanoi Boutique Hotel 2 nearby) is right in the middle of old town Hanoi with its vibrant nightlife and street markets that are on the go all night. Although the area is very crowded and the sidewalks are almost useless (as they are occupied by motor cycles, vendors, people eating food etc), thereby necessitating walking in the chaotic roadways, a visit to this part of Hanoi is great fun. By the end of our time in Hanoi we had even plucked up the courage to cross roads full of moving cars and cycles. The hotel is fine, though attention to detail is lacking. The coffee maker in the room did not work and the requested replacement did not arrive. Toiletries were not replaced when needed etc. But the room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom, while not stylish, was clean and perfectly adequate. The room had a safe, good wifi reception and a minibar. We were on the top floor (9th floor) of the hotel which is a typical Vietnamese narrow, tall building. This necessitated a walk down the spiral staircase to the 8th floor, the highest floor served by the single elevator. When a number of guests are checking out in the morning, the elevator was often stuck at one floor as luggage was loaded, so 9 floors of the spiral staircase were sometimes needed. The rather dark bar serves as a breakfast room. Each morning there is a good buffet with both western and Vietnamese dishes plus the excellent pastries found all over Vietnam.
One restaurant about ten minutes away that I would highly recommend is the Green Tangerine (48 Hang Be Street). This is in a lovely old house in the old quarter of the city serving an excellent French menu with good wines. By Vietnamese standards it is quite expensive but well worth the money. Salmon “Ca Kho” style and boneless chicken stuffed with currants, almonds, black mushrooms and spices were excellent. Service is impeccable. The place is small so reservations are essential.

my family n i stayed here on 17th june 2012 / 19th june 2012 n 20th june 2012. Tho the hotel is generally nice we had a terrible experience in that hotel. Being muslims we informed the hotel that we do not want any meat in our meals. However we were shocked that on the 3rd day of our stay there , we found little pieces of pork in our fried rice. This was despite us asking the hotel staff several times before eating if the fried rice has any meat in it n they assured us that the fried rice has only prawns!!!!!

This is a good centrally located hotel. As a boutique hotel it has a charm that is missing from the chain hotels, the staff are very friendly and helpful - in common with most staff in Vietnam. I was expecting the jacuzzi to be free/included in the price and at the the time the existing literature stated that this would be the case. On arrival the staff apologised profusely but obviously were not responsible for the web design or flyers. Apart from that small issue everything was good. Great location, good room, friendly staff.

I'm afraid I can't fully agree with the many positive comments listed here. The hotel location is great and staff are both charming and helpful. However, my room was tiny, with the shower right next to the bed! As a result the whole room smelled of damp and I was glad to only be there one night. Breakfast was fine, with a good mix of local and International choices. However, I would not choose to stay here again.

Room Tip: Don't agree a room until you've seen it!

This hotel was quite lovely. It's set in the heart of the Old Quarter, very much has a boutique feel to it. Staff were very helpful and friendly. They organised our tours for us when we got there, it was hassle-free. IT's good value for money, we had breakfast included (fairly average selection, but they did serve hot meals). Sufficient to start the day.

Our room was spacious and well-designed. We took the executive suite, we were very pleased with it. There's a pretty little bath but it was quite flimsy and somewhat messy (didn't bother me too much just be careful when you use it).

Our stay included massage for two at their Spa. To be honest this was the worst massage ever. IT was far from relaxing, I was left sore all over. The masseuse were very imposing, they blatantly asked us to tip them even though the massage was horrible as a courtesy we still tipped. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, it's pretty horrible.

Location was great, close to the night-markets, and the buzzing street life.

Room Tip: It's worth paying a little extra for the executive suite, very charming and spacious room.

Trip Advisor members you've done it again! We chose this hotel on your advice and were certainly delighted. It is in a great location in the old quarter of Hanoi, so very convenient to markets, shopping, restaurants etc. The hotel itself provides everything you could want and the staff are very friendly and helpful, unlike some better quality places I've stayed. Breakfast was OK but you had to get there early as the dishes were not always topped up, and the clearing of plates didn't seem to be important to the wait staff, so one ended up with a pile of used crockery which was annoying. Our room was spotless and serviced each day, but sometimes we had requests "lost in translation", like getting black tea bags. Next time I will take my own and also my own tissues as those in the room were like sandpaper.
We were disappointed with the spa as it was far from relaxing.....no quiet music, only curtains between clients, and the girls chatted to each other the entire time along with clients who were able to walk by despite you being in various stages of undress. Very uncomfortable feeling!
The hotels best asset is "Can Do Kevin", who greets you on arrival, and goes out of his way to make your stay as pleasant and interesting as possible. He went to extra lengths for us , getting tickets to the Water Puppets on his way home from work, and giving up his day off to take us personally to see Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum. Thank you Kevin, you are a gem.
The only real complaint was being charged for crisps from the mini bar which we didn't have. It has always been a policy of ours when travelling to not touch the mini bar, so after disputing this we were made to sign a declaration to say we didn't eat the crisps!!!!
Despite this it is a fabulous hotel with wonderful staff, and we will return!
