We arrived in Hanoi on a Friday (14th Sept) afternoon and made a call to the contact number we had for Intrepid Urban adventure just to make sure things were organised. They had our details and confirmed our meeting point at the Sacombank ATM on the corner of Dong Xuan market, which was all very reassuring. After settling in at out hotel we then proceeded to our rendezvous point at 5pm. This was our first experience at negotiating the Hanoi traffic when crossing the road, a myriad of motor scooters, all going in their own directions and that was an adventure in itself, much as described by others on Trip advisor. We arrived early and were also joined by two American ladies and after introducing ourselves and having a chat, Bac our local guide arrived on time and outlined the nights activities after providing some useful advice on moving around the streets safely and reassuring us that we would be taken to venues where food hygiene practices were of a suitable standard. The latter was also a reassuring piece of advice and no adverse affects were subsequently experienced. The 5 of us headed off into the early evening light that turned into darkness populated by the bright lights of the night markets and food stalls. Bac was a 28 year old who had come from the country to study languages and linguistics at University and had found his way into work as a tour guide and was able to give some interesting insights into life in Vietnam as we moved from one gastronomic treat to another. We immediately started off with a French-bread type snack filled with pork mince and cucumber and then proceeded to the back of Dong Xuan market with Bac highlighting some of the local delicacies in the form of dried fish products and various fruits and vegetables popular with the locals. Along the way Bac also pointed out some of the distinctive architectural characteristics of the Old Quarter buildings and living quarters including an old city gate and Temples. These were interspersed with the vast array of stall front shops encompassing all aspects of life and trade in Hanoi in addition to that of food. We stopped at a variety of eating experiences after the first snack, walk and eat, walk and eat, including a delicious meal of rice paper rolls with the characteristic infusion of squeezed lime juice into the dipping sauces, a BBQ grill of fish chicken and red meat, locally fermented beer, fresh fruit in coconut cream and finally coffee at night on a high balcony overlooking Hoan Kiem lake. One of the really interesting experiences was walking along a rail line that meandered its way through the living quarters of local Hanoians and one was able to glance a passing insight into the city life of local residents. This would not have been something that would have been easily undertaken ourselves having just arrived. Bac was able provide a really wonderful introduction to Hanoi, its food, people and life in the city, all crammed into a few hours. Bac also hailed a good Taxi (Hanoi Taxis) for us at tour end and arranged with the driver to deliver us back to our hotel and provided advice on the likely fare, which was spot on. It was great value for about $24 per head with a really good local guide, who as it turned out over coffee was to accompany us on the next day tour of Hanoi Highlights, another well organised and memorable event.

A great option to get to know the delicious street food in Hanoi without being completely lost with all the options available. Our guide, Bac, took us to wonderful restaurants through the most amazing streets in Hanoi. We visited 5 different places and tried local specialties while walking through the busy and chaotically wonderful streets of Hanoi. I would have never been able to find those places on my own and the food they serve is really worth trying. It’s the perfect 5 course dinner plan. I highly recommend it. Thanks Bac !!

I can really recommend Urban Adventures. The bus was wonderfully air conditioned which was a blessing every time you got back from an excursion. Our guide, Bac Bui, was wonderful and very knowledgeable. It is a great way to see Hanoi. Thanks for a wonderful day.

On our first evening in Hanoi, my friend and I decided to do the walking food tour, as it promised to walk us through the back streets of Hanoi and to feed us the local food. Being that we were two girls travelling alone, we figured this would be a great opportunity to safely see and eat our way through the city, and we were not disappointed! It was an evening tour from 5pm to a little after 8pm, that took us through the highlights of some of the more local shopping areas, as well as the back streets and alleys that my friend and I would never have been able to venture to on our own. Bac's english was quite good, and he was very informative and ready to answer any question we had. The food was also quite good, and there was plenty of it at different points in the tour. The group was small, as there was only 1 couple that joined us, which made it quite nice.

Thank you so much, Bac, for such a wonderful evening. I would definitely recommend this to any of my friends traveling through Hanoi!
