Description: Located on the top floor of Hanoi La Siesta Diamond hotel, the Gourmet Corner restaurant boast the finest view of Hanoi from the 12th floor, overlooking Hoan Kiem Lake, the Red River and the ever-growing skyline of Hanoi. The Gourmet Corner food menu is the combination of Vietnamese and some Western favorites. Our Vietnamese food options mostly are the dishes from the North. In northern Vietnam, a colder climate limits the production and availability of spices. As a result, the foods are often less spicy than those in other regions, especially the middle part of Vietnam. Black pepper is used in place of chili as the most popular ingredient to produce spicy flavors. Also, coriander is used commonly in most dishes. In general, northern Vietnamese cuisine is not bold in any particular taste - sweet, salty, spicy, bitter, or sour. Most northern Vietnamese foods feature light and balanced flavors that result from subtle combinations of many different flavoring ingredients. “Good service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2013

Good food, good service. I took out my camera to snap a picture of the food that just arrived and the waitress immediately came over to ask if my friend and I wanted a photo together. We went in the lunch time and we spent less than US$20. We ordered an appetizer (spring rolls), two main courses (Vietnamese dishes) and shared a dessert (banana crepe). It was good. I loved the food and the ambiance was great. Also it is situated on the 12th floor of the Elegance Diamond Hotel. View is great!

“Dining with a view of the lake”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2013

We came to this restaurant twice during our 5 days in hanoi. We were away on a cruise for a day and the last day we had to leave hanoi. So we actually visited the restaurant 2 out of 3 nites for meals.

We found this restaurant from the city map. The map offers some good recommendations of restaurants. However, we doubt at first if it may just be an advertisement.

However, we tried most of the restaurants within our areas and we found them good.

This particular restaurant is our favorite. Not only the food was good but the service is excellent.

The service staff speaks good amount of English. They are engaging and share some tips on traveling in Hanoi. Make good recommendations on food choices.

The price we find was acceptable as it is afterall a hotel. We paid about USD$20 to $30 per pax. We had beef, chicken and wine. We tried the vietnamese bamboo beef. Also the beef with rice noodle cubes. We also had the fried spring roll which is a traditional dish. Everything was yummy.

On top of the quality food and excellent service, the view was great! We could see the crazy traffic below and a view of the lake.

We have decided that we will stay in this hotel if we visit Hanoi again.

The Essence group have many hotels but this one is nearer to the lake. This is the essence Elegance hotel, only 50 m to the lake. It has many shops nearby and is very near to the water puppet theatre. From here, one can go to opera house, hanoi prison, St Joseph Catheral. If you are in the old quarter, use the lake as a guide to all attractions. Visit one attraction on one side of the lake and then the other side and you can see most areas. For attractions outside of this area, you may need to book a cab for a day so you can go to these attractions without worry about getting on a nasty cab.

We find that with proper planning we are able to cover most attraction we want to visit.

“Icing on the cake”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2012

Hanoi is a wonderful, vibrant city. The old quarter is endlessly fascinating and the Hanoi Elegance Diamond hotel sits conveniently between the old quarter and the lake, with the Gourmet Corner restaurant on its top floor. We ate there initially because we were staying at the hotel - a pleasant lunch in scenic, air conditioned surroundings away from the bustle and heat of the streets. After checking Tripadvisor, we went back for dinner and were equally delighted. The food was lovely, the service impeccable and the view one of the best in Hanoi. And eating breakfast there every morning of our stay was a bonus for all the same reasons.

“Good restaurant with nice view of Hanoi”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2012 via mobile

I stayed in Hanoi Elegance Diamond hotel where The Goumet Corner is located in. Since breakfast was included in the room rate, I ate there everyday. The breakfast had a wide selection, with a buffet of fruits, hot food and cold cuts, and an a la carte menu to order. The banana pancakes were delicious (I has 3 servings daily!), and so were the scrambled eggs (one of the best that my husband ever had!). The bacon wasn't crispy, which I loved, though I know most people would prefer it crispy.

Since the breakfast gave me so much confidence in the restaurant, and it also happen to be top ranked on TA, I decided to give it a shot for lunch as well. My husband had the cheese burger, which was served with a side order of thin, stringy fries. The fries were good, but unfortunately, they weren't hot. The burger was homemade, and though I didn't try it, my husband enjoyed it very much. The size was not particularly generous, but fair. I tried the crème brûlée, and for USD 2.50, it's hard to go wrong. Unlike most crème brûlée, the inside was hot, which was pleasantly surprising.

It's a small restaurant located on the 12th floor of Hanoi Elegance Diamond, with a mixture of western and Vietnamese food on the menu. Service is impeccable, just like the rest of the hotel staff. Highly recommend!
