Description: Located on the top floor of Hanoi La Siesta Diamond hotel, the Gourmet Corner restaurant boast the finest view of Hanoi from the 12th floor, overlooking Hoan Kiem Lake, the Red River and the ever-growing skyline of Hanoi. The Gourmet Corner food menu is the combination of Vietnamese and some Western favorites. Our Vietnamese food options mostly are the dishes from the North. In northern Vietnam, a colder climate limits the production and availability of spices. As a result, the foods are often less spicy than those in other regions, especially the middle part of Vietnam. Black pepper is used in place of chili as the most popular ingredient to produce spicy flavors. Also, coriander is used commonly in most dishes. In general, northern Vietnamese cuisine is not bold in any particular taste - sweet, salty, spicy, bitter, or sour. Most northern Vietnamese foods feature light and balanced flavors that result from subtle combinations of many different flavoring ingredients. “As many have said, great view, average food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2012

I am not sure why this is the #1 Hanoi resto on Trip advisor, because the food is not nearly as complex or flavourful as a lot of other restauarants in Hanoi. Excusable faults: they ran out of our first choice for drinks and they also ran out of rice (comical given it's the staple food). However, the view is spectacular (especially the roof top bar) and the servers were very friendly. Bland, milquetoast cuisine. Tasted like they are catering to less adventurous tourists. Come for a drink. Don't stay for the food. Service and ambiance excellent.

“Great views, average food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2012

Great views over Hanoi from this restaurant, but food is very average. Not sure what people keep raving about? Food has been much nicer in all other places (La Badiane, Green Mango, etc) we visited. Food was cheapest at the Gourmet Corner though, guess you get what you pay for. Friendly staff and nice Christmassy atmosphere.

“Good if you need to take a break from street Vietnamese food !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2012 via mobile

Pros:
- nice view and location
- the food was good: I really liked the sauce of the Orange Fish. My boyfriend had the rice nems with pork.
- service is friendly and they care about making you happy

Cons:
- our starter was a bit too simple (beet root salad with only a few pieces of feta)
- our waitress was a trainee and barely speaked English. However I don't want to emphasise too much on this point as it might have been her first day! She seemed pretty stressed. She was still nice and all our dishes arrived in the right order.

“Stunning view, good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2012

Excellent meal on the 12th floor of one of the Elegant hotels in the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem District of Hanoi. Stunning view from the outdoor area - but freezing when there's a cold wind blowing. Staff very helpful, aiming to give us a table in the tiny corner restaurant, when a table was vacated. Pomelo salad, garnished with nuts, and felafel balls covered with sesame seeds with a tofu centre were great starters. The banana lassi was appreciated by my colleague. Two fish mains with rice and vegetables were good, but unremarkable. Creme brulee to share was delicious - hard crust of melted hardened sugar below which was a deliciously creamy (albeit too cold - should be room temperature I think...) creme. Perfect end with a good Vietnamese coffee to accompany it. It was the most expensive meal we had in Hanoi - but still perfectly reasonable - around 720,000 Dong ($36) for two. A safe bet and probably stunning to sit outdoors in the daytime sun overlooking the lake and city.

“Great service, good quality, but overpriced for local standards”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

The waitress who served us (Trang) was totally lovely and made our evening super enjoyable. She just interacts with you as an equal, has a great sense of humour and was very friendly.
The food is tasteful. Our only issue is that, even though you will never see a local there (it is a restaurant for tourists, only), it is still overpriced compared to other restaurants we went in Hanoi and elsewhere in Vietnam with equally or better tasting food.
