We are just back from an excellent 3 day tour of Ha Long Bay with Vega Travel and a great tour guide, Duc "Duckie" Le. Everything was super well organized and every logistic seamless. We essentially stepped off the bus/van and onto the first boat, stepped off that boat onto the bigger one, etc. without ever standing around waiting for more than a minute or two. Duc was informative and funny and really took care of us throughout the tour, literally holding our hands as we transferred boats but also such a great communicator in terms of laying out for us the day's agenda and always making sure we had exactly what we needed: camera, water, hiking shoes, swim suit, etc. We also loved how Duc answered all our questions with such earnestness and intelligence and shared many personal stories which helped us get to know Vietnam through his life experiences.

The tour itself was perfect for us, not wanting a party boat, but a respectful, friendly, awesome international group and an active agenda of recreation: hiking, biking, kayaking, and swimming, most of it quite mellow (although the heat/humidity can make mellow intense), except for maybe the second hike, on Cat Ba Island, where the was a bit of an off the beaten path steep scramble up and over and down a mountain, though Duc gave us the option of opting out and going for a mellow walk and meeting up with the group afterwards. The accommodations were actually better than expected (especially if you splurge for the wonderful cabins on the boat) and all in all this was such a wonderful way to see a true wonder of the world. Not to be missed! If you can, ask for Duckie!

What an amazing day! The highlight of our holiday! We found Vega travel in our Lonely Planet guide; read reviews and then booked our trip while in England. The email correspondence was great and all questions were answered. We were only in Hanoi for three days but wanted a day trip to Halong Bay. We were advised a private day trip would be best and it was certainly a wonderful day. We were collected from out hotel by our guide, Duckie, and our driver. We were driven to Halong Bay in an air conditioned car so although it is quite a long way it was a pleasant journey. Duckie spoke excellent English and gave us lots of info about Vietnam and the life of it's people. We stopped to see rice fields and then at a large tourist shop with excellent gifts. Arriving in Halong Bay we transferred to a huge boat, which could have held 20 people but was just for us! Three crew; a cook; the driver and Duckie! We sailed out in to the bay and could see immediately why it is one of the seven natural wonders of the world! Stunning! We visited caves; had a wonderful lunch on the boat; went kayaking; climbed to a view point and went swimming off a beach!! And all in the company of Duckie - a lovely young guy and great character! The organisation of the whole day was flawless from beginning to end!

We book the one night, two day travel with them after a recommendation. The trip was really nice, we enjoyed the food, there was just 16 of us on the boat, the guide was excellent. Overall, great experience and definitely a recommendation

I chose this company for a 1 night/2 day tour of Halong Bay based on recommendations in the lonely planet guide and reviews on trip advisor. I felt it was a standard experience, everything went smoothly and we covered the itinerary without any dramas. The food was just average, was filling but nothing memorable. There was rarely enough space on the deck for everyone on board to lounge in the deck chairs. A couple of our friends on the same trip did a far more luxurious cruise with fine dining for around the same price, so there are better value for money options out there than vega travels.

Just arrived from a 2d/1n halong bay tour and need to say they are very professionals here. Everything in time and as planned. Good food, really nice and careful guide Tiger, good room, good boat (even though dont look like the boat on the picture, no sails). No waiting on the pier or jumping boats, no squeezing vans, no changing cruises, everything fine. And best of all, more flashpackers and relaxing vibe, good if you are 25-40 and want to avoid party cruises. I recomend! (Just be careful with drinks, in the free breakfast coffee/tea was free but nobody told us we would have to pay 3 extra dollars for the juice that was offered on the table. That upseted not only me but other travellers on the boat, unnecessary).
