Two young girls Trang and Luan met us at our hotel and took us to wherever we wanted to go. Well informed and suggested places we didn't know. Even helped us to secure a fair rate for a car and driver to Halong Bay. Lovely girls who were amazed that we should buy them some of their 'favourite' sweets that they had reccommended to us. They have to write a report for the University after the tour and our girls sent us a copy. Can't believe how much they remembered about it and us. Great - try them.

When my wife & I were planning our first trip to Hanoi, we came across the group called Hanoikids from various travel blogs. So we sent them an email requesting for a tour when we get to Hanoi on July 13. True enough, at exactly 2PM, two local college students, Huyen and Son, were in our hotel to pick us up and guide us for a walking tour of Hanoi. It was a great experience - learning more about Hanoi and Vietnam direct from these two excellent "amateur" guides. Despite the rain, their enthusiasm made our afternoon with them very memorable. We would recommend anyone visiting Hanoi to avail of their FREE services.

Tour guides and such are not usually how we like to explore a city - we like to go figure things out on our own and just explore. And in our first 24 hours in Hanoi, we did that and it was a lot of fun. But since we read so much in the forums about Hanoi Kids, we decided to give it a whirl for our second day in the city. For those that don't know, Hanoi Kids is an organization of local university students who serve as free city tour guides - the benefit for the kids is that they get a chance to practice their english with actual english-speakers. Very professional and responsible organization - check out their website.

Our guide (Phong - and I'm likely butchering the spelling here) was very accommodating and patient with us as we asked a million questions. He was very good about showing us some things we hadn't yet seen. He was really helpful in our tour of the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum - he was able to explain a lot of cultural things with "Uncle Ho" that we might not have otherwise gotten.

I could explain a lot more detail, but it's best to check it out on your own. Highly recommended to spend some time with Hanoi kids. If you're like us and like a lot of self-exploring, spend a half-day with them and that'll be plenty. If you're a little skittish on exploring a new place, Hanoi Kids is a great way to get introduced to the city. If our guide was any indication, the kids are energetic and curious in addition to being very helpful - we had the most fun talking about our respective languages.

I have had an afternoon tour of Hanoi with two of the guys from Hanoikids. What an excellent way to learn about the city and the sights. Their English was excellent and they had lovely senses of humour.
Very professional and I would recommend Hanoikids to anyone. Their service is free beyond paying for taxis (cheap), entrance fees as applicable or perhaps a coffee. Such an excellent service. I can't rate them highly enough.

We were shown around Hanoi for the day by two young women from Hanoi Kids during our recent stay there. I found this a great way to see the city and get a lot of answers to questions about Hanoi and Vietnam. The two women who looked after us were great company and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. So much better than just doing it by yourself and it ended up being the best day I had spent in Hanoi.
