“Awful hotel with aggressive unfriendly staff”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2012

I stayed at this hotel when the hotel I had booked said they had no room for me and this was their 'sister hotel.' The room was dark, dingy, and smelled of mildew. The air conditioner sprayed water on the bed when turned on, many appliances and outlets did not work, and the bedding was also dingy. The bed was uncomfortable and overall cleanliness was only so-so. There is no concept of service at this hotel. But this was not the worst - the man in charge was beyond rude. When I disagreed with the manager, he had his staff block the lobby door so I could not leave. As a single female traveler, I do not take to being locked in by several men.

I would never stay here again and certainly do not recommend the hotel! While in a good location, there are plenty of other options on the same street which are much better and much better value!

Room Tip: I don't recommend staying here.

The only good thing about this hotel is that it is centrally located in the old quarter of Hanoi. Staff are not friendly and there is no service to talk about. We had to wait for 30minutes at the airport for the airport transfer to arrive. The hotel is old and water heater and heating facilities in the hotel are not workingly properly. We had five rooms in total, somthing always breakdown in one of the rooms. This was a second visit to the hotel. This time it was a total dissappointment compared to the last stay.

I was on a tight budget while I was travelling around Vietnam and stumbled across this hotel in Hanoi. My stay there totally surpassed my expectations for its worth of a mere USD20. The rooms were very clean and furnished Vietnamese style, giving it a very authentic feeling complimenting its amazing history. I even had a window with a cute view, in contrary to budget accommodations where there are usually no windows. There is also cable TV. The staff at Nam Hai were constantly smiling and cheerful and really hospitable and friendly. I also had a wonderful breakfast every morning and the strategic location made it very easy for me to get around. Definitely would stay here when I'm back in Hanoi. Gahm unh! ;)

We stayed here for three nights on a recent trip through SE Asia. It was just perfect - $22 per night for our basic room, which included a free airport pick up and breakfast every day. The room itself was perfectly fine and was clean with hot shower and lovely ornate wood furniture. I emailed them to make a reservation, which was easy and uncomplicated. The hotel suffered from the same "pitfalls" as every hotel in this part of the world - including an odd bathroom configuration, a very firm bed, and no elevator - but I recommend it without hesitation!

We stayed in room 404 this hotel for 3 days with $20/night. It is on fourth floor and the hotel does not have lift. It is long way from down stair to the room, but it is quiet and having nice garden view. Our room is clean, spacious. The staffs talk a little.Breakfast is really good serving in Nam Hai 1 hotel in the opposite corner

I think the hotel is good place for tourists

Located in the old quarter of Hanoi, the hotel is ideally located where all the buzz is. Staff are ok, efficient but not the friendliest. Paid $20USD for our room with breakfast. The hotel has 2 PCs for guests to use for free, but there is also wireless internet available for free as well. The lobby is nice and cool, as they have the doors closed and the air conditioning running so you actually feel comfortable.

The rooms are far from clean. They have air conditioning, complimentary water bottles and reasonable space in the room. Beware though, as the hotel does not have a lift and you may end up in the higher floors. The room is looking very tired and old. It looked relatively clean until we started seeing cockroaches around the floor. That made us feel uneasy and made sure all our bags were closed up. The bathroom is also just as tired and old in appearance. The room has a fridge, small tv with bad reception and a small wardrobe. Other than that, there is nothing much else of interest to the room as it is very basic.

The breakfast was surprisingly good. It is served in the Nam Hai 1 hotel across the road. It appears the original Nam Hai hotel is a much more superior standard to the second one. The staff serving breakfast were also much better. We had a very friendly chef running the kitchen and was out having a chat with us, always checking that our food was satisfactory and making sure we had enough to eat. The spread at the buffet was quite good, with plenty of hot food, bread, pastries, fresh fruit, juices, tea and coffee. This was the highlight of the hotel stay. Everything else was pretty ordinary.
