Owner description: "Visiting Vietnam without listening to a rhythm of ca tru traditional music means that you've not discovered the real spirit of Vietnam yet." "Free yourself and get immersed in ca tru while enjoying performance by Thang Long Ca Tru Theatre. It is a voluntary, non-profit group of ca tru musicians founded in 2006. Long-time history, unique instruments, impressive music tones and meaningful song lyrics made ca tru recognized by UNESCO as the World Intangible Cutural Heritage." "This is a concert for about 70 persons held in an old temple in the old quarter of Hanoi. They are good about explaining the instruments and the history of the music. They even let you come try out the instruments. The hot tea and little cake is a nice touch at intermission" "The singers had such dear, expressive faces and sang with such intensity. The instruments were unique and had a real otherworldly quality to them and the presentation and overall performance were of a very high quality. I felt delighted, entertained and educated. Well worth going to see."-Visited wrote The show is on every Thursday and Saturday night at 8pm at 28 Hang Buom (Quan De Temple).

“memorable musical experience”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

A beautiful, atmospheric evening - a wonderful contrast with the busy-ness of the Old Quarter street outside. The music is extraordinary and very intimate - no microphones are used. The performers are very passionate about passing on this tradition and although they take their roles seriously, they are also very friendly. With an opportunity to try the instruments and the sharing of green tea and sweets, this felt like a genuine cultural exchange and was a delight.

“Genuine and atmospheric”
Reviewed November 10, 2013 via mobile

If you are after a step back in time, a calm and intimate evening with some romance, this is the place. I was very happy to see that both young and old performers were so involved in preserving this music and tradition. Beautiful setting, small crowd. Hope this show stays as it is for very lobg time. Enjoy.

A great experience which felt very authentic. Wonderful dedicated singers and musicians keeping alive an old art form. The venue itself was old and beautiful. The atmosphere was almost ethereal. We were able to try the instruments out halfway through. Dont miss this one.

A magical air filled the concert venue once the performers got on stage and started singing and playing their instruments. Lovely way to spend an hour of your time in Hanoi. If you're traveling to have fun and experience true Vietnamese culture, don't forget to visit Thang Long Ca Tru Theatre!

“Ca Tru in historic jewellery communal house”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

As I recall we saw a musical group perform in the evening at 42-44 Hang Bac Street. We enjoyed it very much. The seemed very sincere in their desire to perpetuate the art of Ca Tru and created a very warm environment introducing songs in both Vietnamese and English. It is an intimate and magical setting.
