Owner description: "Visiting Vietnam without listening to a rhythm of ca tru traditional music means that you've not discovered the real spirit of Vietnam yet." "Free yourself and get immersed in ca tru while enjoying performance by Thang Long Ca Tru Theatre. It is a voluntary, non-profit group of ca tru musicians founded in 2006. Long-time history, unique instruments, impressive music tones and meaningful song lyrics made ca tru recognized by UNESCO as the World Intangible Cutural Heritage." "This is a concert for about 70 persons held in an old temple in the old quarter of Hanoi. They are good about explaining the instruments and the history of the music. They even let you come try out the instruments. The hot tea and little cake is a nice touch at intermission" "The singers had such dear, expressive faces and sang with such intensity. The instruments were unique and had a real otherworldly quality to them and the presentation and overall performance were of a very high quality. I felt delighted, entertained and educated. Well worth going to see."-Visited wrote The show is on every Thursday and Saturday night at 8pm at 28 Hang Buom (Quan De Temple).

I wanted to see this because I saw a special about it on TV. I think kids would like it & it was interesting. We added it to our Walking Food Tour & highly recommend that tour!

A must see. Unique experince, and no doubt that it is takes hard training to syncronize the puppets. A nice evening.

“Traditional Vietnamese music, but in the end just 30 minutes”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

Overpriced and not professional. This experience could be organized so much better.
The venue itself is nice (an old traditional courtyard) and the atmosphere is nice.
Unfortunately everything is turned into an average touristic attraction of the "try it yourself" kind.
In the end the music show itself lasts about 30 minutes only, maybe even less, and then they try to involve tourists in playing the drums etc...
Not only pretty embarassing, but honestly I do not enjoy paying a ticket to watch tourists trying to play an instrument.

Suggestion for the organizers:
run the show more professionally. Just play a bit more traditional music (at least 1 hour of show, please!) and tell stories about the songs and instruments.
No need to involve people and to get the others stuck watching nonsense touristic performances.

“Not to everyone's taste, but I enjoyed immensely”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

A group of three went to this theatre, two were ambivalent but I thoroughly enjoyed this simple and elegant presentation of Vietnamese culture. Only takes an hour, the musicians explain each segment and the audience is invited to try the instruments in the interval. Great pre dinner activity.

“Experience the traditional Music of Vietnam!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

CA TRU Hanoi ... A Vietnamese Traditional Music Concert; this is a world intangible cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO - CA TRU. We attended the concert on July 19 th which was an intimate gathering of about 8 guests who thoroughly enjoyed the music and dance and explanations of such. It helped us to better understand the music and the history of it. The musicians presented poems through song with lyrics, melody and three traditional instruments; Dan day, drum and phach. There was plenty of opportunity to engage the artists and ask questions. You even had a chance to try the instruments! A beautiful way to immerse yourself in Vietnamese traditional culture. Music is endless however we need to take part in it and listen so that this great music is not lost. Highly recommended!!
