“Good little place”
Reviewed December 17, 2010

Good little hotel, with a good location right in the action. We stayed here either side of our Halong Bay trip, and they kindly looked after our bags while we were away for a few days.
Rooms were clean and very big considering the price, and they came with a flat screen TV with loads of channels.
It was showing its age here and there, but one of the two rooms we had came with a great bathroom, but the other room was more run down. But both were clean and comfortable.
Staff were all very genuine and helpful, something we found a little rare in Vietnam.

Some of the workers don't speak clear English or understand English very well so it made it difficult to deal with them without getting an English speaker involved (usually the owner). Other than that, everyone was very helpful and took great care of us, esp. when parts of Vietnam flooded and we had to make other travel arrangements down country. They did it all for us and did it well. I would definitely recommend this place and would stay there again should I ever have the opportunity to visit Vietnam again.

Luke & Sarah have a great hotel, with friendly and very helpful staff - Nhung remembered my name and details and nothing was too much trouble - I work in the hotel industry in the UK and the service was 100%. Really good recommendation for Halong Bay too - went with A Class tours! If back in Hanoi will def stay at Rendezvous.

This is a 5* budget hotel for me, excellent service, great cleaners, great restaurant staff with great food and an excellent breakfast.

For some, rooms at the front maybe a little noisy but, you're in a city so.....

I know I am only echoing what past posters have said but, the staff are what really makes this place, Neaung in particular for me was outstanding but not to take credit from anyone else, I just don't remember everyones name. Ask ask and ask again, you will be helped from beginning to end with a smile and the knowledge that your best interests are being taken care of. $32 a night for my room with service you would not get in a $250 hotel....!

Great hotel in a great location in the Old Quarter. Obviously at $30 a night (cheaper if you want a dorm room) this isn't going to be a luxury hotel, but we were still impressed with what was on offer.

The best things about this hotel:
- The staff, so helpful (by far the most helpful hotel staff we experienced in Vietnam).
- The breakfasts (included in the room). AMAZING and huge, plus there's lots of choice.
- The free Wifi (also very fast)
- The size of the rooms. We stayed in two different rooms and they were both huge.
- laundry service. Cheap, quick, clothes returned in tip top condition. Other hotel laundry experiences in vietnam weren't as great...
- no pressure to book tours. Unlike other hotels we heard of, the staff didn't pressure you to book tours through them. They only showed you tour options if you asked, which was perfect.
- great people. Breakfast was a nice place to chat with other travellers, without it being a busy "party" place.

The small gripes:
- We were on the sixth floor, no elevators so it was a bit of a climb. Still - I like to think it was good for burning calories from all the amazing food we were eating! Maybe if you're unfit or injured, ask for a lower level room
- The shower temperature. Maybe it was just our sixth floor location, but the water never went hot. When we moved rooms (after a halong bay trip) the water was fine (5th floor). Again, not a big deal.

I rated this place based on the amount I paid for the room. I booked this hotel via email a couple weeks prior to arriving in Hanoi, and Matt arranged for a taxi to pick me up from the hotel. It was my first time overseas and it made for a great jump off point for my trip. The room was a good size, the bathroom clean and had a nice little balcony. The staff were very friendly and consisted of three Aussies who were very helpful and some locals who were also very helpful despite the obvious language barrier (although they could speak basic english). It was very nice to wake up each morning to a free breakfast and pleasant employees each day.
Having a guitar in the restaurant was a nice touch for me too.. Hope I wasnt too loud on that thing :)
If you are planning your first trip to Hanoi, consider yourself warned: the City is very loud and you should bring earplugs if you plan on sleeping at all!
