“Great new hotel in Hanoi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2010

After a sleepless night on the train from Sapa, we arrived at the Silk Path Hotel at 0500 hrs - yes at 5am! The staff were terrific and checked us straight into a beautiful Executive Room. Ultra plush, new and very clean, including all Villeroy & Boch bathroom fittings, it was exactly what we needed after the train ride. Excellent full buffet breakfast on the 1st floor each day and on the 10th floor is complimentary use of their sauna, spa, steam room and gym. The staff do hover (!) and can't do enough. Good area as well as it's close to Hoan Kiem Lake and shops.

Apart from sailing on the 'Paloma' junk ship in Halong Bay, this hotel has been the highlight of our accommodation in Viet Nam. The only other junk boat that looked as good was called the 'Bhaya'. Paloma is about USD 300 per night including all meals and Bhaya is about $350 - the latter includes a 5-star dinner in a huge cave.

We paid USD 110 per night at the Silk Path and that included breakfast and wireless Internet access. Good value by any standard.

Have fun..

We played at CAMA festival and the Silk Path sponsored the festival, so we, delightfully, were able to stay in this gorgeous hotel.
Its beautiful.
Small rooms, but stylish, clean, plush, classy. Got room service that rocked my world.
the sweet as can be door staff were tails.
theres a grand piano in the piano bar.
and it was the best breakfast we had in hanoi.no, Vietnam.
Its classy and nice.
Choose it.
the view from the hallways out onto the city is grand.
go to the roof and take it in. dont know if thats allowed, but any hoo.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2010

We stayed for a few days around April 2010 at this hotel. Tastefully designed and very clean. Hotel was launched about 2 weeks only.
It is a small boutique hotel which is long and narrow. Apart from the executive rooms or higher category rooms, don't expect any view from the normal deluxe room. Ours faced the wall. When we asked for upgrade, the various receptionists were lost. We were told to pay USD81.70 per room per night for upgrade from deluxe room to executive which according to them was the next category up. According to the hotel website and the brochure at the lobby, deluxe room was USD80++ and executive room was USD100++. Clearly, the receptionists were very wrong. Either they were very inexperienced, completely inflexible or unwilling to upgrade us. We believe it was the lack of experience.
Initial we thought the deluxe room was quiet but just a bit small. Clean and have full amenities. Nicely decorated. But we were wrong about the quiet part as our subsequent nights proved that it did not have good sound proofing as we could hear the showering, talking and noises. One night, the automatic curtain opened by itself and closed in 30 secs. We were quite uneasy with it and the technician could not find any fault with it. Eventually, we were upgraded to another room in the morning but due to the anxieties of the strange self-automated curtain and noises from outside the room, one of us fell sick. We cancelled the next day's trip due as we were exhausted for the lack of peaceful sleep.
The upgraded room was much better in size, but the noise would come from the balcony. Nonetheless, we must say that this hotel has great pillows and bed with total black out curtains and if you are not a light sleeper, you should be able to enjoy a good night's sleep in Hanoi with no problem.
One of the restaurant serves pan fried foie gras. Piano bar was computer operated and dont expect pianist there. We later were told that the live performance was on weekends only.
Service was overall fine. The staff tried hard but not to the extent of suffocating the guests. They are friendly, reserved and honest.
Overall, this is a great hotel to stay in.
