“VERY BAD EXPERIENCES 2 stays”
Reviewed October 10, 2010

We stayed at this hotel on 2 occasions in the last 2 weeks, once for 2 nights and then a single night a week later. We had the VIP family room and the 2nd time paid $84USD for 1 night (nearly double what was paid the week before), it was on the 4th floor, no lift, carried own bags, and extremely noisy even with ear plugs. On both times we found large coakroaches in the room, the towels were brown/grey, the 2nd time there was an ashtray full of used cigarettes in the room not cleaned from previous guests. We could probably have overlooked these things and the cold breakfast, but there were 2 bad things happened. An article of clothing went missing, and on the first stay we found staff in our room at odd times of the day for no reason, on the second stay our suspicions were confirmed when on return from a meal we found one of the staff using our shower and toilet, we found this very offensive and dishonest and question how safe guest belongings are when staff feel it is alright to use guest's rooms - there was no safety box in the room despite being listed on web site. Would definitely not use again (had other issues as well). We stayed in many hotels in Viet Nam and they were all excellent including 2 home stays, this was the first hotel we found dishonest and also the first time I've written a negative review.

The hotel rooms was very pretty. Everything was quite new. Bathroom was excellent. The location is excellent but it has its downside.

We got a street view room as there were no other rooms available (the are two rooms per floor: one with street view and another with interior view. There are no glass in the windows, just wooden cover you can open without any insulation. You can hear scooters as you were on the street. The noise begins very early in the morning. Luckily we were able to sleep with earplugs.

The real problem was lack of English skills. My husband got sick after eating pizza you were able to get to the hotel. Next morning he had to go to the hospital. Hotel staff had difficulties to help us with finding the hospital and arranging the hospital visit. They didn't even tried to help us as much as I would have hoped. It was very difficult to arrange things. e,g. I had to change all reservations for the following days. They also charged quite a high bill for telephone calls I called from reception telephone before I got prepaid Vietnamese SIM-card. We had to pay for the whole extra night because we were not able to leave at check-out time. My husband was still sick. They had laundry service, but two shirts were ruined. They did not compensate anything.

In the summary, if you need extra help with English language, you may face problems. And do not eat the pizza they offer.

Very friendly staff. Located in the old town of Hanoi near the lake and shopping district. Free Internet. Big, clean and modern rooms with ac and new bath rooms. Breakfest buffet included. Best value for the money we paid. Best Hotel in Hanoi we stayed. The noise from the street is for Vietnam acceptable.

This hotel is in a perfect location right near the Old Quarter. The staff were SO friendly and helpful. There was a relaxed atmosphere at the hotel. Rooms were very big as were the beds. Clean and tidy, a great place - with the staff really making the stay a memorable one!

The day after I booked the hotel, the manager wrote an email to confirm my reservation, very efficient. I also booked the airport transfer and Halong Bay tour with them. It was good value for money, and nothing went wrong. They provided maps and directions to the places we asked them. Their communication skills with English is great and were constantly helpful and friendly, and treated us like friends.
For the cheap room rates that we paid, the buffet breakfast tho simple, is really worth it. The room is spacious and clean and new sets of toiletries are provided daily. The room decorations are done tastefully and the air-condition works perfectly, very important because we went Hanoi during the warm and humid season. Internet connection is readily available in their lobby. If not, you could bring your own laptop because there is free wifi, suitable for business travellers too.
Last but not least, they constantly greet you with a smile, which makes it great.
However, if you have elderly travellers, ask for the 2nd floor rooms because there is no elevator.

I stayed in this hotel in March 2010 with a group of friends to discover Hanoi and start a trip throughout Vietnam.
The hotel is well located in the old quarter and the rooms are comfortable. However, there are no glass windows but shutters only which makes it quite noisy.
Even though the facilities were ok I would not recommend this hotel at all because a large amount of money was stolen from our hotel room. It was quite obvious that only the cleaning ladies have entered our room and must have taken the money and the support by the Manager wasn't helpful at all. He said there's nothing that he can do except for taking us to the police station. After we spend 4h there explaining what was missing the policemen where only asking us what we think they should do now. They wouldn't take any fingerprints, instead came to our room to take pictures.
Our conclusion was that all of them knew each other and since everything was done in Vietnamese we couldn't understand anything. Anyway, I would definitely not recommend this hotel and please don't trust their staff and take all your belongings with you.

The Asia Palace Hotel Hanoi 1 is clean and well decorated and has a large, comfortable bed and clean bathroom with a good, separate shower; The room has a flat screen TV. The staff are service -oriented, cheerful, friendly and helpful. The breakfast that goes with the room is excellent . The hotel provides free, fast computers and internet in the lobby. It is only a couple of short blocks from the Hoan Kiem Lake, the night market, good restaurants, shopping streets, and ANZ ATM machines. Staff called reliable taxis, provided safe, free luggage storage for us when we went to Halong Bay, can arrange tours, volunteered good advice on where to eat and what sights to see. The staff functions in English.
We stayed there three times. The first time, the hotel made a mistake and did not have our prepaid room (booked through Agoda) available when we arrived. We were sent to another hotel by taxi (paid by Asia Palace Hotel 1) for the night and brought back to the Asia Palace the next morning. Unfortunately, the hotel to which they sent us (the Garnet Hotel) was not of the same standard as the Asia Palace. It had a serious toxic black mould problem which caused great respiratory discomfort to us.
We advised Agoda of the Asia Palace's mistake and Agoda contacted the hotel to clarify the situation. The Asia Palace hotel gave us a free night because of this mix-up, which is a sign of good service orientation. Agoda gave us a 10% discount on the second night's booking.
Everything was perfect during the subsequent two times we stayed at the Asia Palace Hotel Hanoi 1.
We would definitely stay at the Asia Palace Hotel Hanoi 1 again when we visit Hanoi and would strongly recommend it as a welcoming, secure and comfortable place to stay.
