“Just should expect room, not the service”
Reviewed May 14, 2010

When I was eating a salad at the restaurant for the breakfast, a LIVE WORM as walking on the dish. I called someone in service and clear the dish, but just said "sorry."
Still the salad with worm was on serve.
I was asked for late check out. They said they charge half price of full room rate. But said only I can stay 6 PM. Paying half price and stay only for six hours? It was first hotel I was told that I can stay only SIX hours dispite I was requested to stay until 8PM.
Regregirator in the room was not working. I said to fix it to a maintenace person but never appeared. I had a very warm beer that prices 5 times more than restaurant price in the town, but the taste and feeling was the bottom of world. Are those your standard of the service?
Internet is charged USD12- for 24hours or USD3 as hourly. Many adviertisement looks it is free but not.
If their attitude of service is not going to be changed, I must say that I can not stay, not I do not stay to this hotel again.

If you can manage it, get a different and more reasonably-priced hotel. My family and I stayed here for 2 days and it is the smallest hotel I've ever been in. It's not as big as the one in the photo, very deceiving. Two in a room is already a snug fit so just imagine when we booked 3 in a room (and we're Asians so we're quite small).

Note that half of the shower room can be seen across the bedroom. There are fabric blinds to cover it, but it may be bothersome for guests who have privacy issues. Also, there are no bathtubs and the shower room doesn't have a separate door. If the shower is too strong the water WILL splatter the floor by the sink.

The rest of the room is the usual hotel fixtures. I still can't get over how small it is.

For the buffet, it's usual breakfast fare and it's the same choices for the 2 days we stayed there. What's annoying is that they don't have a proper toaster-- just a single pop-up toaster so you can only heat two loaf slices at a time. It was no surprise that a queue formed just for heated/toasted bread. We also improvised a bit by placing the croissants and other pastries on top of the toaster slots so that we can heat these too.

It's fairly clean because there's not much space to clean up.

I give service a 3 because the bellboys were kind and gave recommendations where we can eat.

Slightly out of town,so therefore be prepared for a walk to the old quarter.Close by to rail way station (not disturbed by the noise. We booked ahead but wished we had booked 1 night as deals could be had and we paid too much for this hotel.Breakfast was fine.Receptionists were great , they helped us to re-organise flights to Danang, and helped with trip to Halaong Bay
All in all ok, 3 star hotel slightly out of town, with helpfull receptionists.

Stayed at this hotel for a couple days in early March. Did not care for the high price at Melia Hotel so decided to give Mecure La Gare a try. Mecure is a small modern hotel with good facility. Decent location, sort of at the tail end of a nice business area though you do have to walk a little bit to everything. A number of places to eat and to see around the premise but honestly speaking, most these places are for "foreign tourists". Hotel price is moderate - not the cheapest but considered reasonable. Breakfast is expensive and internet service is extra (high) - not very customer friendly!

Hotel has a typical "European" look (not surprising, as Mecure is a French hotel chain) Room is clean, spacious (I had a superior room) and contemporary. Bed is super comfortable and HUGE so it is definitely a plus after an exhausting trip. However, I was not a fan of the bathroom due to a bad design of the shower area - the semi-open space (no shower door) makes it a real challenge to prevent water from splashing all over. Sink area is super cramped as well..... The other minor issue is the inability to open the french window/door in room so "fresh air" is totally out of the question. Mecure claimed this is a policy for hotel guests' safety. As for the see-through shower glass wall that many complained about here, Mecure actually installed a pull-down Asian curtain so privacy is probably not much a big issue anymore .

Overall, this hotel is quite okay for business purpose but I suppose it can be better. May consider it again for future use.

Stayed here for 2 nights while on holiday this Spring. Very helpful staff, clean rooms, continental (typical European fare) breakfast, free internet. The only concern I had was the bathroom - glass walls.....doesn't allow for a whole lot of privacy.

On arrival, the hotel appeared to be newly built and checkin was quick and efficient.

We were assigned a second floor room and found it a bit noisy at times from other guests and the street - would recommend asking for a higher room.

Breakfast and drinks are overpriced for what is offered - don't bother asking for a cocktail - I don't think staff know how to make them properly as a long island iced tea tasted like plain pepsi.

Hot water in room ran out quickly - did not bother reporting this as the staff's English skills when another problem was discussed with them disappeared. Seems to be a common problem in Vietnam that problems are not addressed and are just ignored.

The room was small and comfortable but as others have mentioned, the shower has no curtain so this hotel is not suitable for those who are not a couple to share a room.

Wasn't the best location (near the train station is a bit so so ) but a short walk takes you to the main part of town. Restaurants in the area were generally terrible so I would recommend eating in the Old Quarter.

Brand new.
Competent friendly staff.
Rather small but well appointed room.
A 3star + I would say.
