Upon arrival, got handed an icy cold juice and free upgrade to a superior room. We arrived early, and checkin isn't usually till 2 but they checked us in at no extra cost, no problem, much to our relief!
Staff were genuinely friendly! All rooms have free internet use on room laptop which is very useful for doing trip research. We wanted to do a trip to Halong bay, and Mr Son organized a trip for us with Galaxy tours. After hearing and reading about some horror stories, we were pleasantly surprised. There were no scams, although drinks were at tourist price, which added up for us. Back at rising dragon now; booked trip to Sapa and upon return to hotel were given a complimentary room for the few hours wait we have before train. So nice to have a shower! Slight walk to more modern shops, but was worth it for quality hotel . Would stay here again.

Room Tip: smile. be polite - no promises though.

Positive:
1. breakfast - guests could order anything from the ala carte menu in addition to the buffet spread e.g. beef noodle, american breakfast and more.
2. attentive and helpful staff - my camera was stolen at the Old Quarter and the hotel staff kindly advised me on how a police report could be lodged conveniently i.e. by bribing the police with US$20. When I declined this offer, the staff accompanied me to the local police station. Whilst there, she patiently helped me to fill in the forms in Vietnamese and waited for almost 30 minutes before the presumably-busy police officer had time to attend to us (strangely, four other policemen were loitering around chit chatting and/or smoking).
3. standard room was upgraded to suite on the first night - a real treat!

Room for improvement:
1. A more functioning lift than one that breaks down regularly will help (especially when I stayed on the top floor).
2. A more secure firewall could be installed in the computer in the room e.g. my yahoo email account was almost 'compromised' (once in the suite and once in the standard room).

This hotel was INCREDIBLE! The staff were all amazing. The rooms were very nice, clean, air conditioning and internet, free water every day. The girls at the reception desk were the most helpful people we have met here. They booked us all kinds of things - tours to Halong Bay and Ninh Binh, flights, overnight trains. They were very accommodating and let us leave our bags in storage while we went on all of our other city adventures. They created a "4 person suite for us" by bringing an extra bed (not a cot, but an actual extra twin bed) into the family suite and did not charge us extra. They also did our laundry for us for a super cheap rate. We enjoyed our stay here very much and would definitely come back anytime and would recommend it to anyone staying in Hanoi! The food and staff in the restaurant were also excellent! Fantastic value!

Very friendly and helpful staff, basic but clean rooms with good bathrooms, computer and wifi included. Simple but nice cooked breakfast, good service for airport pickup and local travel. The immediate area gets quite dark at night due to lack of streetlights and restaurants close early in Vietnam, but of course its safe anyway since its Asia.

I stayed here for 2 weeks, and my wife and I then stayed on and off for another 2 weeks. The Rising Dragon 2 was excellent in every respect. The room was a good size and nice and clean, comfy bed, good a/c, good shower, flatscreen with loads of channels, awesome breakfast. The hotel is in a great location. Best of all were the staff who are so friendly and go out of their way to help in any way they can. They sorted out our train tickets to Sapa, and organised our trip to Halong Bay (Galaxy tour company - the boat was amazing!). I would definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely stay again when back in Hanoi.

The room was huge and comfortable. It was basic but had en suite bathroom, TV, a safe, and a comfortable bed. It wasn't the quietest room I have ever stayed at but for the location it wasn't too bad.

The staff was very helpful in setting up tours and suggesting restaurants and bars.

Very good value for money and I would recommend this place for a clean, centrally located place in Hanoi.

Stayed here in June '11 as our first stop on our trip to SouthEast Asia. Overall we were very satisfied with the Rising Dragon II. The rooms were very clean, the A/C worked well, and there was a computer with Internet in the room. Breakfast was good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Conveniently located in the Old Quarter.
