“Overpriced for area ............ street extra busy and noisy”
Reviewed April 21, 2010

We were booked for 3 nights early in April 2010 but arranged to leave after just one night soon after we checked in. The staff at check-in were aloof and unsmiling except for the doorman who was friendly, helpful and polite. In spite of arriving at the hotel at 4.30pm with check in available from 2pm, we were told to wait for our room as it wasnt ready. We eventually entered the room to find the carpet was stained, the bathroom door didnt shut, the safe didnt work, and the wireless internet in the room promised when the VIP room was booked didnt exist. Not to mention the obviously old and wrinkly 'fresh fruit' in the room which when brought to the attention of the male person who had checked me in 30 minutes prior seemed offended that I had brought it to his attention. If were were paying a standard amount of money to stay in this establishment this wouldnt have been an issue, but we were charged $US130/night for a VIP room which is quite rich for this area of Hanoi. I must also say that the VIP room does not resemble the photos shown on the internet.
There was also a work crew of people digging up the footpath in Hang Bo Street right outside the hotel with a jack hammer and there was mud everywhere which was due to continue for another few days. During the 1st evening, the police were outside in the street with loudspeakers at 1.30am trying to breakup a group of people at a property opposite, and when that quietened down, the road crew arrived at 3.00am to do more work on the footpath outside the hotel. Breakfast was basic and uncomfortable as we were the only people there, and the female staff member insisted on staying within a metre of our every move and while we were sitting at the table. We checked out shortly after that. While I understand that the footpath works were not the fault of the hotel, I wasnt prepared to stay for another 2 nights in those conditions when there were many other better options available.

La Dolce Vita Hotel was perfectly located in the heart of Old Quarter. The hotel was full when I booked but they upgraded me to the deluxe room which is very spacious. Only setback is the room is located just beside the main street so for those who are senstitive towards noise, you better opt for the normal room behind the street which is less noisy. However, the deluxe room has a balcony which allow you to admire the life and street of Vietnamese. This hotel is relatively new so the room is good for the rate we paid (US$60 per night nett with breakfast). It's only 2 street away from the night market that are open only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Dong Xuan market is also within walking distance but if you're going during summer, this may be a place to avoid due to the crowd and some of the shops there are only interested to sell in bulk. Located 3 doors away from the hotel on the right is a mini supermarket which allow you to pick up bottled water, tip-bits etc easily. There's a very nice restaurant that I would recommended which is 1 street behind the hotel, Green Mango, 18 Hang Quat Street, Hanoi, www.greenmango.vn. They served delicious food and for 5 items we ordered for serving of 2, we paid only US$40. Pls try this restaurant if you're staying at this hotel since it's nearby. If you're looking for a tailor for made to measure, you may try Hoa Silk located at 72, Hang Gai Street (Tel : [--]). They charged me US$25 for a cheongsum dress with thai silk and US$15 for a cheongsum top. Pls get your design ready as they will just follow instruction and to ensure they are clear what you want. Also, you need to give them at least 3 days for fitting purpose etc so would suggest you go there on your first day and pick up before you leave. There's another very good Vietnamese restaurant which you must try, Quan An Ngon at 18 Phan Boi Chau, Quan Hoan Kiem, Hanoi which served delicious Vietnamese food and inexpensive. This restaurant is famous even with the Vietnamese and served a great variety of Vietnamese food if you want to try.

We stayed in this Hotel in the old quarter of Hanoi. Located in Busy (beep, bep, beep) Hang Bo. We had one of the 4 VIP rooms on the 7th floor. Great bathroom, though the lighting wasn't great. We had 2 Plasma screens, one on the wall in the bedroom area and one 10 feet away in the sitting room area, with no door between them? Staff are very helpful though it can take a while if you order a cocktail that has to be mixed. The location is ideal and we would come back to Hanoi in a heartbeat. The restaurants are great, there is one called the Green Mango 2 mins away which we compared favourably to Cafe Warisan in Bali (that may help if you have been there) at a third of the price.

Hotel has wifi and ethernet in rooms if you take your own laptop, we didn't but if you need to do anything serious online you should, the free 2 pc's are really just about able to do e-mail..

This Hotel is pretty much as their website says, I wouldn't hestitate to recommend it!
and overall Vietnam is a brilliant and great value for money destination.

This is not a bad little hotel. The rooms were clean and spacious enough. Lots of counter space in the bathroom, Walking distance to shopping and the night market. There's a little convenience store a few steps away where you can get pop, chips, etc. Also, there is this awesome bakery across the street about a block down. They sell these beautiful caramel crusted eclairs that are to die for! The breakfast buffet at this hotel is very good! A few not so great things (but not a deal breaker): They need more elevators and there is no parking allowed on the street in front of the hotel so it made pick up and drop off somewhat difficult. Also the room that we were in was kind of dark since the windows look into the hallway versus outside.

my family (3 kids) picked the hotel for a stopover (one night). From the airport it would take 45min to get there, the traffic in Hanoi is packed with motorbikes. Order a pick up from the airport in advance (some 17$). As our flight came in late and we had to leave early next morning, I'd have loved to spend less time on the road.

The hotel is situated downtown in a busy merchant area, excellent for the evening exploration. It got quite a stylish lobby area with tasteful paintings and couch area. The rooms are ok and clean.
Breakfast was ok as well.
