“Helpful staff and great value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is located right in the middle of it all but down a small alley so there's no noise at night! The rooms were large, bright and had great amenities! Breakfast was in the lobby, buffet style and really good to fill up on before a busy day! The staff are the best part they will go overboard to help you out. We booked an overnight trip to ha long bay but it was cancelled due to weather so the hotel who were fully booked put us up in their sister hotel and we even had the manager personally take us on his scooter because they couldn't find us a taxi. We felt really looked after here, so if your looking for a great value hotel with bright rooms and in the centre of it all paramount hotel is the place!

The first problem encountered was that although we gave the Airport Taxi Driver the address written in Vietnamese and he appeared to know the general district he had a problem finding the street which the hotel leads out onto as it is not possible for cars to use it in the daytime however he kindly rang the Hotel who sent two staff to collect and carry our bags and show us the way as the entrance is down a side alley. I would suggest contacting the Hotel and requesting them to give directions in Vietnamese to be given to Airport taxi drivers to save any potential problems.

First impressions were not too bad. A friendly welcome with cups of free tea or coffee whilst registration details were being recorded but the sofas in reception were a bit tired. We were shown the breakfast area and given breakfast times and also a map of the area before being escorted to our room which was SUPPOSED to have been a Superior one. Room 617 was anything but superior. It did not in any way match any photos from anywhere of a Superior room, the Room safe that was supposed to be supplied was not present plus the refrigerator did not work. A visit to reception produced the safe plus a replacement refrigerator but then as we went to pack our clothes away we noticed that dust was all over the wardrobe interior,in the drawers and all over the wood of the furniture A step too far even at the rate that we paid so another visit to reception complaining plus the question as to was it the type of room that we had paid for and if so why did it not match their own webb site photos. The result being that we were moved to a room that matched the photos on their webb site not the standard room which we had been given and that made it a different ball game .This room was spacious and bright. but being on the 6th floor it had no great views but was ok. WiFi worked well, loads of hot water but the controls to direct water to the point required (Bath/Hand Spray or large shower head) took a little figuring out.
Breakfast was ok. A choice of eggs boiled/fried/ scrambled or omelet with bacon etc plus buffet /tea/coffee/salad/fruit/juice/bread butter/toast, jam and fruit. The coffee being Vietnamese type and only small cups were available but there were no complaints about numerous refills neither for the tea or fruit juice or fill a glass.
There is as of this time building work next door, the building being attached to this one so during the day time it is a little noisy with banging etc being heard and felt which was extremely annoying on the first day here we were tired and tried to nap in the afternoon to help to recover. Night time is however quiet the building not being on the main drag.
As others have stated the Hotel is in a nice central position and walking to various places of interest is no problem. There are lots of different types of shops in the vacility ,including bars,BUT the closest genuine Bai Hoi with draft local beer that we found was around 15 minutes walk away in NGOC OUYEN close to the street where the night market is held.At the time of writing the beer was priced at 6,000 dng for a LARGE glass.

The location is very central to downtown area but tucked away down a side street so is not noisy.
The rooms are bright, very clean and comfortable. Breakfast is supplied daily buffet style but will also accommodate requests for something different, the food is well presented, lots of it and tasty.
Staff is friendly, helpful and very accommodating.
Excellent value for money

Room Tip: stayed on 2 occassions both times in different rooms and both rooms were very nice, comfortable, cle...

We stayed five nights in all (with a break of a night in Halong Bay). The rooms and beds were very clean, although the bathrooms do need attention as they are showing signs of age. And yes, please supply a bath mat as water ends up pretty much everywhere in the open shower area. Beds (as seems to be the norm in Asia) are very hard. We had issues with air conditioning unit in our first room not working and it was a bit of a struggle getting the first guy to agree that it was in fact not working correctly, but it was soon sorted by moving us to another room. Staff were helpful, in particular Thep (?) who manned the reception in the evenings - he's a real asset. Very happy with the city tour we organised with them and also the taxi to airport arranged through hotel ($US 15 which we thought was very reasonable). Breakfast was varied and tasty, and chef on hand to make cooked eggs on request. Breakfast was meant to finish at 9am but was always replenished until almost 10am. Hotel is in a great location - easy walk to all the sights and sounds of the Old Quarter and there is a good selection of eateries and drinking spots in the lane that the hotel is located in.

I'm not sure what the other reviewers were on, or if I'm particularly hard to please, but I can't agree with most of what they say.
The staff are pleasant, but that's about as far as it goes. I think we had the 'best' room ( as its picture is used in their advertising - this being the family room).
Walls seem to be made of paper, you could even hear someone turning on a light switch in the next room, and as for doors closing either upstairs, downstairs, or next door, well I'll leave that to the imagination! No safe in the room, beds not made up the following day, no bathmat which you need when the water leaks out of the partly operational shower, broken toilet seat, tatty furniture, no replacement of drinks in the fridge, air con that only seems to circulate the air (at least we could open the windows), lumpy pillows. But the room did appear to be clean. Would I stay here again? Definitely not!

Room Tip: Hate to experience the other rooms!

I like this hotel so much. The boutique design made me impressive, very warm atmosphere . Hotel staff is so nice and kind. If you stay at Paramount, you will experience what is called Old Quarter of Hanoi. Located in a tiny street, Paramount is quiet at night and crowded on day time, short walk to Hoankiem lake, really good place to stay. The service was perfect. Everything is great. I will suggest this hotel to my friends when I come back to my hometown. Thanks you all.

The Paramount Hotel played a large part in wonderful memories of a beautiful country. The rooms were very clean, lots of hot water and heat when we needed it. The internet was great. The breakfasts were good. My only issue was that the coffee wasn't always hot and it was in very little cups - not a huge complaint. No Tim Horton's in Vietnam. The location was great - lots to see and do within walking distance. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate and assist however they could. We arranged four tours through the Hotel and were very pleased with our choices and their arrangements. The boat cruise in Halong Bay was fabulous. We went to Hoi An and Sapa. The hotel arranged planes, trains, boats, buses and taxis. We were able to leave our luggage behind with no worries & our daughter who is currently working in Hanoi had parking for her motorbike. The best was when we arrived back in Hanoi by night train from SaPa at 4:30 a.m. and a familiar face from the hotel was waiting for us and we were back in bed by 5:00 a.m. in a room at no charge. We also went on the Perfume Pagoda tour which was another wonderful experience. We had laundry done efficiently 3 times. If our daughter wasn't in Hanoi we probably would have missed out on a life experience of visiting such a wonderful country. Lots to see in Hanoi. We loved every minute of it. We're very glad we visited. There was some construction going on next door which started very early in the morning. I believe the staff were as surprised and disconcerted as the visitors. They did ask to have the construction started later in the day. I don't think there is any good or in-between time for the construction. It has to be done. Oh well you can always nap at home. All in all we had a wonderful time in Vietnam and the staff at the Paramount Hotel were a large part for us and we thank each and every one of them. We felt like we were treated like family. We highly recommend this Hotel.
