“Great budget hotel with SUPER staff”
Reviewed December 9, 2013

I was pleasantly surprised when we checked in at the Charming Hotel. I had read reviews on TA about the helpful staff but was amazed at the high level of service at the hotel. You always get greeted with a smile and everyone remembers your name. Very helpful with any requests. Slap Bang in the middle of the Old Quarter you can walk almost anywhere.

If you book in for three nights via their website they will arrange an airport transfer free of charge.

The hotel room was larger than I had imagined after some of the reports that I had read and the computer and cable TV were nice to have too.

They offer free breakfast which I can't comment on because I skipped it every morning but I did order a pizza through room service one evening when I craved western food and it came promptly and tasted good.

Housekeeping was also very good.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less street noise in the morning.

We stayed at the Hanoi Charming Hotel four nights, bookending a trip to Ha Long Bay. Because we stayed more than two nights, the hotel picked us up at the airport for free.

Like most guesthouses in Hanoi, the building is about 10 feet wide, but the rooms still felt spacious. Our window room had a fine bathroom and was relatively quiet, although earplugs helped. Though on quiet alleyway, the hotel's front rooms still get a little noisy.

The defining quality of the hotel, however, is its service. Managed by Mr Duc, the most responsive emailer we have encountered, the young staff will learn your names, tell you theirs, ask how you slept and wish you a good day every time they see you.

You will almost never be allowed to open a door or carry a bag for yourself. You are greeted with cool towels, a welcome drink and a plate of fresh fruit when you first arrive. Breakfast is included, and you can choose from four set items, including a Vietnamese breakfast. The quality is fine, and you will be offered seconds on drinks and fruit.

This level of service is corporate policy. We stayed at two hotels owned by the same company in Hue, the Jade and the Holiday Diamond (see our review) and the service was the same. There is also a Charming II not far from the Charming in Hanoi.

Room Tip: Rooms in front have a window, but can be a bit noisy

An excellent budget Hotel . Very clean . Staff cannot do enough for you. Always helpful . We had a street view, although it was not noisy . . Computer in the room was a bonus . The staff were great at organizing our trips to Sapa and Halong bay, providing us with a room to use in the early hours or late afternoon after we had checked out. It was all so very convenient for us . They could not have served us better. The breakfast was great, enough variety , service was instant , food delivered soon after ordering and always straight from pan to plate . No problem with 2nd juice or coffee. either. . All staff from porters up, were gracious and informative at all times. Nothing was too much trouble for this entire staff. Walking out in the morning into the small lane way, with all the fresh meat and produce for sale , was a very enjoyable experience .All the locals friendly and smiling . If lost, they know where to direct you. This Hotel is right in the middle of everything , we walked everywhere around this amazing city. We recommend Hotel Charming Highly .

A lot better than a hotel round the corner.

It was clean, the room was bright (dispite having no window), modern (ish), spacious and staff were friendly.

Good budget hotel (good, but not quite very good)

The staff here are a huge asset. The reception staff, the porters, the cleaning staff. They all work so hard and are so friendly, welcoming and accommodating, a big positive.

The room was very clean, modern, had a P.C, although no Window. The breakfast was good and there was alot of variety, although less variety perhaps and concentrating on offering only a few items but making them really quality might be a suggestion?

The hotel is located down a quiet side street, so perhaps arriving there in broad daylight might be a more appropriate option. The side- street has different market style shops, making you feel emerged into a little of the hustle and bustle of working life.

We booked the tour of Halong bay with this hotel and it was good, nothing to complain about, a pleasant trip!

We payed about $20 a night for this accommodation, although prices may vary according to season.

Good location to venture off and around Hanoi city.

Location of the hotel is very good - about 5 minutes-walk to the lake and all the attraction, quiet street, lots of street food and shops around. But that's about it with good things.

We got room without window - it was small, gloomy and unpleseantly humid. Beds were clean but also almost wet, so not very nice to sleep in. Bathroom was ok - clean, hot water. We could here noises from kitchen below us from very very early hour - not a good thing when you want to rest. Breakfast - like everywhere - eggs+tost.

Propably rooms with window were better, but after two weeks in Vietnam, to confront with other 'asian-quality' hotels - this one was on the bottom of the list.

This one really lives up to its name! The staff were incredible, they greeted us with a welcome drink after we arrived, and one of the staff came down to meet our taxi at the end of the road and carried our bags to the hotel for us!
The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a actual PC to use should we have needed it. There was a lovely flat screen tv and the beds were comfortable too. The staff made sure that we didn't go hungry when we had to check out before breakfast and so packed us a breakfast to take away which was very appreciated!
I can't comment enough on how lovely and sweet the staff were, all with a smile on their face and willing to help with anything! Will defiantly be staying here again, highly recommended! Great location too if a little tricky to find, but once you get your bearings its all good!
