The Calypso Grand is nicely situated in the Old Quarter of Hanoi and not too far from the centre. Breakfast were good and varied with food prepared to order. The staff are the biggest asset here with Amy, Anne and colleagues are a big credit to the hotel. Nothing is too much trouble - invaluable if you need a bit of assistance and advice on Hanoi, tours etc.
Prompt replies to any queries by e mail and good priced private airport transfers all done with a minimum of fuss. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Use the hotel's airport transfer ..great to have it organised after a long flight from UK

The calypso hotel in Hanoi was so terrific! The staff was so helpful in planning elements of our Vietnam trip, taking such great care of us and always with a smile and a positive attitude - location right in the heart of the old quarter - very authentic in the middle of the Hanoi life - great value and a must for a hotel in Hanoi !!

This hotel is in an excellent position making exploring Hanoi on foot very easy. Our room faced the street and had a small balcony - wonderful for people watching, although meant that we had constant background noise as Hanoi is a city that never sleeps. This certainly didn't detract from our experience as we were able to watch all the waiters meeting up at the mobile ice cream/sweet bar which set up just outside once the restuarants closed.
The room was large, clean and comfortable and the hotal staff very eager to help - after being dazzled by the range of trips offered to Hanlong Bay we opted to make a booking through the hotel - reasoning that they wouldn't want to be associated with a poor service provider. This worked well and meant that we spent time sightseeing rather than negotiating with travel agents.
Breakfast menu was limited and service was a little slow but this is only small point and certainly wouldn't deter us from staying here again.

Room Tip: If you enjoy watching 24hr street life and don't mind low level background noise definately go f...

The hotel is in one of the most historical street of The old City. Crowded, with small bars and restaurant. Price is reasonable, rooms cleaned and nice, quite new. Some room has also small balcony on the crowded street. Very good breakfast, both western and eastern. Staff surprisingly nice and friendly, good English and excellent service. In the bathroom they provide toothbrush and thee was jacuzzi. Good restaurants and bars on the same road, there is a kind of Hostel pub full of traveller of all kind, from backpackers to couples, single also a family of French with 2 babies of 1 and 4, and delicious Vietnamese restaurants, both in the typical local Tube houses narrow with several floors, or on the streets, where they commonly eat every day. Really perfect for 2/3 days in the city. The street is crowded an really lively from early in the morning, so do not expect to have a quite long sleep, but notice the local nightlife usually ends quite early for western standards, so it is possible at 11pm everything there around can be close. They provide service to airport at same price than taxi drivers, at the time you want, around 330.000 viet$ . (100.000viet$ are 4euro cc).

I stayed here in January 2012 with my family and it was a great location. The rooms were spacious and even though our children were on a different floor they felt close and it seemed safe and easy. The trip to Halong Bay organised by the hotel (by email before we arrived) was a highlight of our trip to Vietnam.

I had stayed here from 15 Jun to 30 Jun 09 and the experience has been superb. Its located right at the heart of Hanoi in the Old Quarter which is where all the action, sights, sound, and taste of Hanoi are. On top of that the Hotel staff are superb, ready to help you always trying make your stay as comfortable as possible. The rooms overlooking Hoan Kiem lake are especially nice. The best part is you step out of Hotel and you are in Old Quarter. I will be definately staying here during my next visit. Thanks a lot Hanoi Old City hotel.

Several of my friends had been to Vietnam for business and vacation, while they all said that Vietnam was beautiful and the people wonderful, i'd heard a few horror stories about the Hotels they had stayed at. So when a group of friends and i decided to go for a holiday to Vietnam, i was a little nervous. Thankfully i had nothing to worry about as we booked into " Hanoi Old City Hotel ". What a wonderful stay i had, my friends and i are going back again in a few months !! The Hotel is very clean and fresh, the staff are very kind and friendly, infact i would say that they go above and beyond their duty as they're so very helpfull and respectfull. I enjoyed a hearty breakfast every morning ( which is free ), and our rooms were always spotlessly clean. We booked a tour to Sapa for a good price, there is plenty of nightlife, and lots of sightseeing to do ( i am looking forward to going on a tour to Halong Bay this time ).
This Hotel is a great find, i would recommend anyone visiting Vietnam/Hanoi to stay at the Hanoi Old City Hotel, you won't regret it.
