“Must do for history buffs”

Vietnamese Air Force Museum
Ranked #67 of 278 things to do in Hanoi

Owner description: This museum costs about $10 U.S. round trip there and back from the Old Quarter and is located on the southern outskirts of the city. It's run by the Vietnamese military. Inside is a front section of a jet fighter where one can climb in and have a friend take his photo. Outside are numerous pieces of military equipment. There's an abundance of MIGs, helicopters, army trucks, radar, artillery pieces, tanks, etc. For someone who enjoys military memorabilia, this is the place for them. Much of the equipment was given to the Vietnamese by the USSR and one piece even came to them from the Germans by way of the Soviets. One of the pieces is a huge helicopter in back. There's also the wreckage of an American jet aircraft from a carrier. I thought the Army Museum had a lot of military equipment in it but this beats that one by a long shot.

“Must do for history buffs”

Lots of aircraft and weapons from the war here. Most of which I had never seen before. As an American, seeing the wrecked phantom and various pieces of American equipment on display was rather poignant.

“Surprise find”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

Surprise find, if you are into the Vietnam war I would rank this place up with the main museum. Lots of planes etc. bit diff to get to as it is on the same road as the air force academy , get a taxi, it is at the very end of the road

“for the enthusiasts”
Reviewed January 18, 2013 via mobile

My 10 year old could not get enough of airforce history while in Hanoi and so we made the trek out of the Old Quarter. there is a reason it is not on the "tourist trail". But if you love military planes, this is the right place.

“For the real aviation/war enthusiast”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

Travelling with 2 real aviation enthusiasts this museum was a must do. They truely loved this place and somewhat I did as well. We were all charged to take our cameras in and majority of the museum was not in english. None the less it was a worthy visit.
