Very nice city to visit, a lot of street food, restaurants, and shopping mall. There are a lot of tourist attactions such as Hoan Kiem Lake, red bridge...

We recently visited Hanoi and had a hotel in the Old Quarter. Our stay in Hanoi was one day before and one day after a Halong Bay Cruise. We decided to take a half day tour of the Old Quarter through Viator on the return stay. I am glad we did. We walked around the area ourselves when we first got to Hanoi, but our tour guided (Happy) showed us a whole other side of this area. He showed us where the real people here live and their life styles. We would have never experienced this on our own.

What a vibrant exciting city! Love every bit of the crazy ambience. This makes Hanoi different from other cities. Everything is cheap, bargain hard & cross the streets like a king. Most Hanoians are nice & friendly. Hanoi Night Market & Hoan Kiem lake is a must visit on weekends.

The Old Quarter is a mix of French inspired building which have been modified in weird and wonderful ways which only the Vietnamese can do... They are masters at making do and their renovations certainly are more for function and necessity rather than looks... There are tiny multi storey homes featuring businesses at street level tucked into every piece of available real estate. Absolutely loved it.

A vibrant area full of history but also modern day Hanoi. There are tourist sites galore but the vibrancy comes from its people. Trying to cross the road was difficult but follow the locals as they have it sussed. There are coffee shops in every corner and cafes and restaurants. The people are gentle and it felt safe being in the city. Make sure you visit the cathedral especially when an open air mass is taking place and soak up the atmosphere of the narrow streets, hawker stalls and locals sitting on little stools in the streets, eating and drinking.
