We stayed in the Phoenix 2 for 3 nights. I booked through hostel.com and they didn't have my reservation, I had to show them my email on their computer. Luckily they had a room. Overall our stay in the Phoenix 2 wasn't that bad. Its in a great location and its good value for money. The breakfast was fine and the staff are friendly and spoke good English.

Unfortunately our room stank of smoke. At first we thought it be ok after a while with the window open, thinking it was from the last person who stayed in the room. It turned out to be from another room and was coming into ours. It was so bad that on the second morning my throat was sore. I told reception and they didn't seeminterested. Though I didn't ask to be moved. I also wouldn't reccomend booking tickets through them. We paid 30USD each for buses to Hoi An. I knew this was expensive but it was last minute and didn't have time to shop around. Turned out to be double the average price! Also when checking out they didn't subtract the deposit I paid when booking, luckily I noticed and they changed it.

This was our first location on our trip in Vietnam and Cambodia, so coming from european standards it was a great introduction! The staff were really helpful with everything from booking buses, airport pick up, advice on trips - we booked our 3 day halong bay trip with them. Always so friendly and helpful. Room was decent and clean, good value for the money.
All in all would recommend and definitely go back again.

Great service arranging tours and trains. Let us shower in rooms after tours even though we weren't staying the night.

The perfect way to start our trip to Vietnam -arriving to a warm, welcoming hotel which became like 'home' for us. Staff acted almost as our travel agents, giving us great tips and booking us into worthwhile trips. Value is excellent (including all-day coffee), breakfast substantial and location in a quiet lane of the Old Quarter couldn't be better. Any quirks are what you'd expect from a hotel with this star rating. We highly recommend this hotel!

This hotel is great value for money, the rooms are clean and the staff are friendly, while not entirely knowledgeable of local opening hours of monuments, so check yourself.
Breakfast included and coffee and tea available all day. The only other problem was there is no heating in the rooms and no extra blankets available, even upon request.
The hotel is in a great location however if I had the opportunity I would like to stay closer to St Joseph's Cathedral, a slightly less frantic area of the Old Quarter

We booked by email the day before arriving. The taxi driver had a little trouble finding the small lane, but that is an advantage when it comes to the hotel being in a quieter location than many others.
*Very* friendly and helpful team – providing 5 star service for budget travellers.

We took the Hanoi Opera one-night cruise and really enjoyed the boat. They also arranged visa extension, train tickets and a taxi to the station.

Breakfast and Wifi were included in the rate as well as all-day coffee and tea in the lobby.

There may be similar hotels in Hanoi but the service here is the key. We would stay again.

I m from Singapore. Stayed here from 6-10 Dec 2009, hard to find, but worth every cent! Once you become familiar with the location, everything clicks. Superb location and yet nicely tucked away from the irritating horns of the roads (except for the daily news over loudspeakers that happens everywhere), room is nice and cosy with cable tv and pc, free internet at lobby, staff are always smiling and ever friendly, attending to all your needs, and providing slightly cheaper tours than others, comes with a hearty breakfast that helps kick start your day, its a gem for any budget traveller! Strongly recommend!
