This restaurant offers good view of the Lake side (not the street side), little quiet in the chaostic of center Hanoi. Foods are reasonable good at affordable price for backpacker. The restaurant upstair is more expensive, mainly for tourists who is fascinating about traditional music (they have live music performance) and traditional royal foods.

Great place to take a moment for yourself from this busy city. Fabulous view of the lake and Turtle tower in it, was the biggest quality of this place. It provided a peaceful rest and refreshment after exploring buzz in hot and humid city. Do not expect anything spectacular, it is just a regular restaurant with confusing menus and ignoring staff. If you're hungry, just look at the images, or explore the surrounding tables ;-) and point fingers. If not, have a green tea and enjoy your stay.

We stopped by this cafe on two occasions on our recent visit to Hanoi. It is set on the shore of the Lake of the Redeemed Sword in the Hoan Kiem district. It was not overly busy on each occasion we visited and we were able to obtain a table on the terrace overlooking the lake and the Ngor Son temple set on a small island in the lake and accessible by a quaint red bridge. (The temple is worth a visit as it also is a tranquil place in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Hanoi). The food is nothing sensational but reasonably priced (more expensive than the nearby Little Hanoi restaurant which lacks the lake view). The service was adequate but not exceptional for a place which is clearly targetting the European/Caucasian tourist market). What we really loved here was the Royal Ginseng tea served in exquisite blue and white china pot and small cups. Most importantly it was a haven away from the ever present throng of booksellers, map sellers, shoe repairers, food vendors and the "excuse me I am a student" characters who want to sign you up to all manner of "charity" scams or to spend time with you practicing their English (some of them actually genuinely want to sit and chat - most are on the take. The continual vigilance to keep these people at bay is very wearing and makes Hanoi not the most pleasant place to visit as a tourist.

The Lake of the Redeemed Sword is really a plus for Hanoi - it is a pleasant place to stroll around (if you can avoid the aforesaid hawkers) and there is often a cool breeze blowing off
the lake. It has shady trees, green grass and quite a lot of park benches on which to sit and rest and gather some energy to cope with the hot and humid atmosphere

This is a lovely place to sit and watch activity on the lake. On a hot day its also has a nice breeze coming off the water. It is not as cheap as other places so if you want the view just go for a drink. We shared a pizza and salad so we knew it was not going to be comparable with the Vietnamese food we had elsewhere - the salad was actually very good with high quality, fresh vegetables. The pizza was fine but nothing memorable. Go here for the location not the food or to look for a bargain. A nice place to sit in the middle of a hot day.

Thuy Ta sits on the edge of Hoan Kiem Lake and has wonderful views of the water. I went at lunchtime and was seated out on the deck. I'd heard bad reviews but was treated well. I had a very small and simple lunch and the food was fine, nothing spectacular. If I were heading out for a regular meal I'd probably go elsewhere but for something light and a coffee it fit the bill. You're paying for the view.
