2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2009

We stayed at bomboo for two nights in december 2009 and got a big room for 20 USD and at first it seemed nice, but the room was just so unclean. Lots of stains all over the walls, and in the bed. Dead insects or some kind of cocoons in the ceiling which was really digusting. It looked like the rooms hadn't been cleaned for ages, even the towels were dirty and when we went down to change them, the staff gave us "clean" ones and put our dirty ones back in the "clean towel box"!

But the room was spacious and had a balcony, which was nice. The staff spoke good english but had the worst memory. I would not recommend this place at all. I mean its so easy to just clean the rooms and get satisfied customers. Those guys didn't seem to care at all. We went a few blocks away and found a clean place for 12-14 dollars, and there are several others i guess!

1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2009

We booked a night at this hotel through a booking agent prior to our arrival in Hanoi for approximately $20USD including breakfast (we obviously overpaid after our experience there!). We were supposed to arrive after 11PM and only needed basic accomodations so we agreed to go through with the booking, even though we normally like to book hotels on our own.

We arrived at the hotel close to midnight and were given a key for a room on the 3rd floor. The stairs are extremely steep and windy, and it was quite difficult to navigate with our two luggages and other bags. When we reached the top of the flight of stairs, we realized that our room key did not correspond with either of the two rooms on the 3rd floor. After lugging our belongings back down the narrow staircase, we inquired as to the location of our room. The front desk person failed to mention that our room was in the back section of the hotel, through the restaurant area.

We carried our luggage up another flight of stairs and took notice of large holes at the foot of the walls. Inside the room, the furnishings were ok but everything seemed dirty (i.e. stains on the window curtains, small stains on the bed cover, marks on the seat cushions, etc.). The bathroom was extremely dirty as though it had not been cleaned in quite some time. We contemplated looking for another hotel closeby (even though the room was paid for) but figured it was already late and we could survive the few remaining hours of the night.

In the morning, we found ants crawling under the mattress and tons of rat droppings on the staircase and around the restaurant dining area. Needless to say we were completely horrified! The front desk person mentioned that breakfast would be starting shortly but we were too disgusted to eat at their restaurant.

We selected this hotel because we liked it`s restaurant offering tasty local cuisine. The price was reasonable (below 20 USD). We had room in 3rd floor with steep steps without elevator, I do not recommend this hotel for disabled/ older people.
The room was basic but the bamboo furniture quite nice. Air conditioning was working but it was pretty noisy. The worst thing about this hotel it the cleanness, or luck of. The bathroom was not cleaned for ages and it was really disgusting, the worst we have seen in Vietnam. Also the room floor would use some cleaning. We met the cleaning lady once and she carried only broom and no cleaning liquid so you can imagine it`s not enough.. The room would also use some repainting, especially the windows.
There was internet in the lobby, but it was not working (it failed every time we open some page and needed restart)

Just recently moved into this building, The Bamboo Hotel is clean and features the nicest of all staff, who are willing to help at any time, whilst they also understand when you don't want to go on tours with their tour company! If you are lucky enough to score a front room with a balcony, hours can be spent watching the pass traffic and noise of Hanoi (whilst you will have to walk up the stairs, as there are no elavators!) The hotel, comes with breakfast with both a Western and tradition Vietnamese breakfast Pho (and coffee with sweet milk!). The accommodation is very clean, and the staff make your stay even more relaxing and comfortable!
