My wife and I tried this restaurant one evening on the recommendation of our guide when we visited Hanoi during our tour of South East Asia. We liked it so much that we came back for lunch the following day. If we could we would give it 6 stars rather than 5. It was exactly what we wanted a taste of genuine Vietnamese food in a more comfortable environment than a street stall. The staff were very friendly and helpful on both occasions, showing us how to serve the delicious Banh Xeo and helping us with the hotpot. We were so impressed with the quality of service that we left good tips both times on top of the 5% service charge that is included.
The prices were very reasonable compared with our experiences at other restaurants and we cannot recommend it highly enough. It has a wonderful atmosphere, large and noisy with families and locals eating here as well as visiting europeans. It seems chaotic but service is really quick. The food is fresh and so tasty.
We have looked at some of the negative reviews and can only think that it is a problem of expectation management. If you are looking for "fine dining" then this is not for you. If you expect to pay the same prices as a street stall then this is not for you. But if you are looking for a genuine taste of Vietnam in an authentic atmosphere then come here - you will not be disappointed.
By the way it was the 18 Phan Boi Chau restaurant that we visited.
