For those who may not get their kicks from squatting on a tiny plastic stool at the side of a dirty road (for what it's worth, I love it but understand why people may not), this place is a great alternative which will let you sample the best of Vietnamese regional cuisine in a lovely setting.

It's quite overwhelming choosing from the vast menu but what is cool is how the tables are in the middle, with the cooking stations for each kind of dish lining the outside of the dining area. This means you can walk around and check out what is being made to see what tempts you.

Another bonus is location - it is just 100 metres from the train station so a great choice before catching a train.

It’s always a good sign when you see locals dining in this fabulous indoor and outdoor restaurant. It’s huge and spreads out over three floors upstairs and many seats downstairs with hawker stalls around the perimeter serving fresh, sensational food. Follow the locals to Quan An Ngon and don’t forget to try the interesting desserts, called sweet soups on the menu with really interesting concoctions of milk sugar and sweet preserved beans and fruits.

Pros: delicious traditional food from several Vietnam regions, good value for money.
Cons: attentive server but poor English (almost impossible to communicate).

This restaurant looks like a food market but more sophisticated and well organized. It has many beautiful rooms. And it's very pop among locals.
Our server was attentive but her English was very poor.
We started with deep fried spring rolls with crab and fresh herbs. So far some of the best deep fried spring rolls that we had in Vietnam.
For main dishes I wanted to try a dish that I had before in Hoi An (amazing Monning Gloria Restaurant), My quam noodles. It was really tasty and fresh. And we also had Bun Bo Nam Bo noodles. Delicious.
The desserts don't look great but we gave it a try: rice with flake coconut. It's green and it looks awful... It's jelly. Very good.
We drank iced lotus tea (7 000). Cheap and refreshing.

Went here after reading the reviews and seeing it mentioned in lonely planet. It was very busy but service was good.

However the food was a real let down, and vastly overpriced. 320000 dong for fried chicken which was tasteless was just one example. Unfortunately the worst meal we have had in Vietnam by a long way.

Went here for two straight days. Food was okay and you get what you pay for. The place can get really full during dinner time, so be prepared to wait for a few minutes. Just a word of caution, if you're not used to sharing tables, this is not the place for you - so come in groups if you can so you get the whole table.

Don't expect an air-conditioned restaurant, but this might be the cleanest outdoor and street restaurant you'll ever encounter.
