“Overpriced and too noisy to sleep”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

We booked this hotel as a little bit of luxury after 15 days motorbikiing from Saigon. Disappointed with bathroom for an comparitively expensive hotel, still no shower cubicle so the bathroom floor and everything in it was constantly wet. Biggest issue however was the fact that although we booked with the knowledge we would be overlooking the Cathedral, they forgot to mention that not only was Quasimodo in residence, he was going to ring the church bells all night and then at 4am and then for about half an hour at 5am and then play some recorded propoganda at 1000 decibels following that. Impossible to get a good night sleep and staff not in the slighest bit interested. Very dissapointing.

I really wanted to like this hotel. We stayed 4 nights in the Lime room. From the photos, it looked more charming than many of the more sterile options in this price category. But in the end, those charming elements, such as original windows and balcony doors and views of the church, translated into noisy, sleepless nights. The interesting light fixtures provided little light and were nothing but dirt collectors. Even with the "reading light" on next to the bed, I had to use my headlamp to read. The dark room feld depressing and the rooms totally need a facelift. If we were paying $40 or $50 per night, it would have been fine. But for $75, I expected much nicer. As mentioned in other reviews, the shower is not separate and sprays water all over the bathroom. Only 2 people on the staff spoke adequate English - not acceptable for a hotel catering to Western tourists. A simple request for coffee with milk was not understood at breakfast. The breakfast was not good at all. Butter provided was rancid. In a city of beautiful baguettes, we were served slices of cheap white bread. Yogurt with fruit did not contain any yogurt that I could find. The location was excellent, but not worth the noise of the church bells. The staff did try hard to be friendly and kind. There are better options in this price category.

We stayed three nights at the Cinnamon. It has a great location right next to St Josephs cathedral (5 minute walk from the lake). The rooms are clean, a little small and a little dark. Breakfasts are good and freshly prepared. The staff are helpful and polite. The bells from the cathedral are loud, and ring at odd times. If you open the shutters to get more light, you get lot's more noise.

Don't get me wrong, it is a nice hotel, but it's probably about $10 - 15 overpriced compared to other hotels in the immediate area.

Room Tip: Try and get one on the far side away from the church.

We stayed 3 nights in this nice hotel before heading north and enjoyed it very much. Close to the old quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake in a relative quiet (It's still Hanoi :-D) street.
Staff is very friendly and helpfull.
Nicely, Japanese style, decorated rooms but rather small bathroom.
Guests can start their day with a good breakfast (plenty of choice).
Taxi pick up is available but it comes at a price (25 $).
Plenty of restaurants and shops in the area.

Set in a mercifully quiet street next to St Josephs Cathedral on the edge of the old quarter the Cinnamon is an oasis of relative quiet and elegance in the midst of Hanoi's havoc. It's small, one has to walk the 3 floors to the top but it has the feel of an old Parisian Hotel. The staff are most friendly and helpful and it is a short walk to the manic heart of the old quarter and the peaceful lake.
A taxi pick up is available if the cost is a bit exorbitant, the breakfast is adequate but who needs to eat a huge breakfast with such delicious street food on the doorstep. Very friendly. The top room "LIme": has a lovely view of the Cathedral ( take ear plugs for the real bells that start very early.)

Room Tip: The top room Lime has a view of the cathedral and a quiet street , but it's 3 flights up and no...

We stayed four people at the hotel for 3 memorable nights and booked a tour to Halong Bay through them, which also turned out great. We utterly enjoyed every second not least thanks to the friendly, competent staff. Lovely rooms overlooking the cahedral. Nice building and interior decor.

Room Tip: Lovely rooms facing the cathedral (more noisy though because of the church bells)

We enjoyed our stay at the Cinnamon. The staff is eager-to-please. The large rooms are pretty. The location is great--right in the middle of things! Our room came with a very large, yummy breakfast daily, and a divine foot massage! The staff bent over backwards to ensure our comfort and enjoyment. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Cinnamon again!

Room Tip: Rooms in the back are quieter. Every room includes an upstairs climb, so ask for a lower floor, if y...
