Thank you very much Splendid star!!! This hotel has outshone all my expectaions, my room was upgraded at no charge, the rooms have your own personal computer and spa bath.
Martin in the concierge goes out of his way to show the guest that they really are welcome, and helps plan your day around the sights, with very usefull safety info. His english is perfect and made me feel like part of his family. 5 stars!!!

At first I was a little confused as there appeared to be more than one Splendid Star Hotel on the same road, of which I stayed in the Splendid Star 2 Hotel (Splendid are a chain and there are 4 hotels in Hanoi). On arrival I was greeted by a man called Tuan, he offered us a welcome drink and then sat us down (4 of us travelling as friends) to explain everything we needed to know and made us feel very comfortable and welcomed. Initially we planned to stay 1 night but in all we ended staying an extra 4 nights due to the fantastic hospitality and service we received!!!

We did move rooms several times during our stay mainly due to us not confirming how long we wanted to stay for but they hotel was very flexible to accommodate our needs where possible. Some rooms in the hotel are better than others and if you can afford to pay a few extra dollars for their top rooms then it's certainly worth it as the better rooms are much bigger and just feel great overall. The smaller rooms are fine too especially for the price we paid! So no complaints there but the bigger rooms just make you feel like you've moved up a star rating.

Martin was the hotels main point of contact as he resides at the hotel pretty much all day and all week. He was a young, small and friendly chap, full of energy, always happy to help and with his cheeky, trustworthy and playful personality meant our stay was never dull as it was a delight to have him involve himself and his opinions with our conversations and our decisions as to what we wanted to do, eat, or see next.

Breakfast is free and unlimited, and the food was great, particularly the Vietnamese dishes which we always looked forward to each morning!

There's free wi-fi and also free to use computers in the rooms. All rooms also had a big flat screen TV and played all the premiership football matches which was vital as I am a huge football fan!

Location is good and is only a 5 minute walk away from the lake, main shops & restaurants and other attractions.

They also recommended us to a 3 day 2 night luxury boat cruise to see Ha-long Bay and from beginning to end it was superb as they had promised us! We decided to return back to the same hotel following the boat trip mainly because by this point we were totally in full trust in everything the hotel suggested and advised us of.

I recommend 100% this hotel to anyone. Although a little dated in the structure of the building the service and experience was the best I and my friends had ever experienced! And good memories make a good holiday!

If you can, please remember the name "Martin" who I guarantee you can trust to give you the best possible advice for your trip, especially if you're first time visitors to Hanoi like we were!!!

Room Tip: Ask for their bigger rooms which generally cost a little more but it's worth it due to the added...

We spend quite some nights at Splendid Star Classic in March 2011. We came back to Hanoi recently and decided to go to this hotel again. Unfortunately they were not able to keep up their standards. The rooms were mouldy, badly maintained an not that clean. The breakfast was a shadow of what it used to be. Most of staff are more busy counting their money, instead of minding their guests. We booked an expensive private tour to Sapa, which was neither private nor worth the money. Don't go here, there's better hotels in the area, where they still value their guests.

We had a very comfortable stay at the hotel. The room was clean and the bed was one of the most comfortable beds in all of Vietnam. The computer in the room was a plus, as was breakfast. The bathroom was nice and the shower had good water pressure. The service was just ok - but what do you expect for the price. The location is excellent - great street food around the corner.

As the hotel we had previously stayed in, splendid Jupiter, was full, we went a couple doors down to splendid star. The person who checked us in wouldn't tell us the price of the room until we were in it, and the price was a reasonable $20. We asked if breakfast was included as it was at the other hotel for the same price, to which he explained we couldnt expect breakfast at such a cheap price but that he would allow us to eat for free. In the morning he wasn't there and we weren't able to get breakfast, and furthermore they charged us a very high price-with an equally high exchange rate-for a taxi to the airport. In all, quite average and we felt cheated by them. Wouldn't stay there again.

First room we got had malfunctioning AC, so we were basically freezing to death the first night. The day after we got moved to another room on 4th floor. Which did have heat. But it also came with a not-so-fascinating mold pattern scattered all over one wall. And the room was so damp, it took one and a half day to get it warm. The smell of the mold still haunts me. I made a reservation on-line and in the description of the room we were supposed to have a view of the lake from our room. We did have a view in our first room, but that was to the neighbours livingroom across the street. The second room had a nice view of a washing machine. There is also a rooster living close by. He will make sure u wake up in good time. The hotel is however located in a nice area. We booked a trip to Halong Bay through the staff, the were very helpful, and the boat was great and all. But we realize now, we once again got scammed.

We booked this hotel on recomendations from friends who had stayed there a few months before. It is in a great part of town ,the old quarter and also close to hoan kiem lake and water puppet show .On booking the hotel from australia and enquiring about day trips, around the area ,we were suprised to find out that they have quite a large and efficient travel service also ! So after many emails back and forth we decided to go ahead and book quite a few side trips and staying back in the hotel.Five day sapa trip incluiding 2 nights on train , with Martin (great little guy)who works at the hotel dropping us off and picking up at Hanoi train station. Also two night Halong Bay Cruise ,day trips to perfume pagoda, and Ninh Binh. So back to the hotel---- when we arrived we were made most wecome by Jenny the manager who informed
us about the hotel amenites, what to pay for taxis ,gave us a map of town ect and generally made us feel very welcome. The room was better than we expected , very modern with flat screen TV computer, free bottles of water, small bottle of local red wine each day. The room rate included breakfast, and was THE BEST vietnamise food i had in all the country, and as much as we could eat.So after a couple of our side trips we had the hotel book us a flight down south, a couple of hotels and a four day mekong delta to phnom phen cruise which went without a hitch.(We even had jenny from the splendid star calling us on the mobile a couple of time to make sure everthing wos ok !) So in ending ,we had a great stay, and wish all hotel and travel agencies were this good.
