“Friendly, sweet, good location”
Reviewed May 12, 2012

When travelling through Vietnam I stayed in Hanoi for the first couple of days and the last one (which I returned to this great hotel) Hanoi Old Centre Hotel is a little hotel located in the heart of the old town. The friendly staff - Thuy, Thuy, Hoan - tries everything to make you feel at home. Airport-Pickup, clean rooms, Wi-Fi, TV, balcony, breakfast - all you need for a reasonable price. Would always go back to Hanoi Old Centre Hotel when returning to Hanoi.

This was a super little hotel and we stayed here for 2 nights. We had been in another (pricier) hotel in Hanoi, and this one was much better.

The staff is so helpful and friendly. I had emailed Ms. Thuy before arriving to book and ask for some help booking trains, and found her just as nice in person as she had seemed from her emails! She helped organise trains for the rest of our stay in Vietnam, day trips from Hanoi and our Halong Bay Cruise (and the cruise was a better price than quoted elsewhere, possibly the trains and day trips too but we didn't check those). Also when we left Hanoi on a late night sleeper train, one of the porters came with us to help us onto the train with luggage and help us find the right carriage and so on - all included in the service.

Our room was very nice, good sized with decent clean shower room and with a small balcony overlooking the atmospheric little old town street we were on. Lovely traditional wooden Vietnamese furniture, air con, safety deposit box, kettle, free snacks and bottled water. Everything was spotlessly clean.

There was free wireless and in addition downstairs in the lobby there were 2 PCs for guests to use (free) to surf the web (we did a lot of travel organisation down there as we were away for several weeks in total).

Breakfast was fine, not a buffet but rather you chose an option from a menu - eggs cooked to order, fruit, bread, nice fruit juices or tea/coffee. There was no restaurant as such but there were tables for breakfast in the reception area.

Facilities were great but what really put the gloss on it was the service - very thoughtful. The porters on the door were always looking out for little ways to help you out, whether it was with bags, or popping an electric fan on for you. Both receptionists we met were charming. You'd be sitting using the PC or something and suddenly someone would appear with a lovely cold glass of lemon drink and pop it in front of you (no charge of course!).

They also had a very reasonably priced laundry service which we took advantage of (priced per kilo not per item) and you could buy beers and soft drinks in reception - I think there was also an inexpensive mini bar in the room as well.

Our room cost $35 per night including breakfast, booked directly with the hotel by email - fantastic value.

You are right in the middle of the old town here, which is great - lots of cafes & restaurants, shops and attractions nearby.

It is not big, it is not flashy - it's small, friendly, clean, comfortable, in a great location and the people are kind, which is more important by far!

This is a small and family style hotel located at the most convenient location to all the tourist attractions, shopes etc.
All staffs are friendly and helpful. The hotel can also provide good services for your other tour packages (such as Halong bay, SAPA, etc) with reasonale price and corresponding service level.

Very helpful staff - arranged our trip to Ha Long Bay very well. We had a large family room which suited our needs perfectly (Double bed and two singles - 602, I think) with a view towards the lake. The room was fine - the bathroom facilities were a bit tired - but we chose to go back after our trip to Ha Long Bay. Breakfast was pretty good.

This place is run by a team of lovely staff who make you feel so welcome in Hanoi. They can organise so much for you: tours, train tickets, taxi to airport etc etc, but there is no hard sell.
Breakfast is served to order, sitting around 2 large communal tables, so you share with others and can swap experiences. Great for single travellers, couples or friends. Great location just 150metres from Hoa Kiem lake. You can also leave excess luggage when you go off on your tours. There is some building work going on nearby, which starts early, but you will be very lucky to escape that anywhere in Hanoi, as the city increases in prosperity and popularity. After the warm welcome I received last year, travelling alone and when i returned earlier this year with my mum, I would not stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: 402 I think is a family sized room with a shower cubicle, rather than a wet room in most fo the othe...

We do have mix feelings about this hotel. Because the people working on it are soooooo nice!

But the fact is that the pictures that are in the website are not the reality. At least not for us! we got a really small room facing the street... the noise was insane! we asked to change.. but still
in the early morning there was soo much noise!

Second... when you leave the laundry with them! Make sure you check you have everything accounted for! this was the first time it happen to us after traveling in other asian countries.

We think for the price they charge at least in booking.com you can find better in Hanoi. Maybe not with the nicest people serving you.. but at least a better and quiet room.

Room Tip: ask if the room in the pictures of booking.com or another website is what you will get... because t...

We are so delighted to hear that you are satisfied with our hotel's staffs. And we are regret to hear expectation was not fully met your expectation.

Regarding the room rates: We confidently pride that our room rates are competitive in comparison with hotels around area, on delivering the high standards of facilities as well as services. Moreover, our hotel's located in the best location of Hanoi Old Quarter, besides Hoan Kiem Lake which is the most convenient for travelers, without paying any cost for any transport you are easy walk to all attractive sites of Hanoi (the room rates are from 25 US$ to 35 US$). Concerning the room: We have many different types of room to meet our customers' needs. If you need a absolute quiet room, you should send us a special request-> we can meet your special needs. We deeply understand the Guests' satisfaction is our success.

About the laundry: Unfortunately, you did not mention this when you were our hotel. The problem could have been solve if you had informed us immediately. We always very careful with Guests' belongings and haven't been this happen before. We are afraid that, on this occasion, you might loose your item somewhere else or this item might not be send to us for laundry services.
