This company has a few boats that will take you to Bai Tu Long, the less visited part of Halong Bay. We did a two-day / one-night cruise, which is really 24h from noon to noon. The food was excellent and the rooms very comfy and clean. We stopped at a cave, did 1h of kayaking, swam, visited a floating village, and one of the crew members (who calls himself Harry Potter) showed some magic tricks after dinner. We would recommend the 3-day/2-nights tour to make the most of the time in this beautiful region.

We booked a 2N3D cruise on a Dragon's Pearl Junk, which was fully booked with 20 guests. We thought it was a great number, and a great mix of people on board allowed us to chat with almost everyone at one mealtime or another! The food is amazing, with so much fresh seafood, but we saw that guests with special food requirements were well catered for. We loved the sun deck upstairs at any time of day. Our room was lovely, with a big window, and of course they are relatively small but they do just fine! We were given a good amount of time for relaxing on our own, going kayaking and for mealtimes. Of course, you could opt out of the kayaking or swimming, but I wouldn't! The area of Halong Bay that we visited was beautiful, and although there is a bit of rubbish in places (which we tried to collect on our kayaking trips!), Indochina Junk really takes you to the more secluded, quiet areas where you barely bump into other boats. And let's not forget the cave dinner and visit to the floating village, both unique and unforgettable experiences! All in all, Indochina Junk is fantastic company to go with, they have a good ethos and seem to care a great deal for the environment, also. Huong, our host, was fantastic, as were all of the staff we came into contact with. If you hate relaxing, being outdoors, eating amazing food, then maybe this isn't for you...otherwise, do it!

We booked this company through advise from our Hotel. Indochina do the otherside of Halong bay which only they have the rights to. Therefore, it is no way near as busy as the real touristy side which apparently has lost some of its authenticity due to pollution etc.

Our tour was a 2 day 1 night. It included kayaking, swimming, floating town, water puppet show etc. The staff were very friendly and the food was great. The tried to cater to everyones needs as long as you gave them plenty of warning.

Be careful of the sneaky tax added to your drinks at the end of the journey.

Only downer is the 3 - 4 hour drive from Hanoi to get there.

One more thing - if you stay up on board after all the swimming etc and get the sunset, the pictures are amazing.

We experienced our cruise just recently (April 2014) on Dragon Pearl 3, with the Indo China Junk company, and everything about the cruise was excellent. The boat travelled to parts of the bay that many others do not visit, including a privately leased island and a fishing village on stilts, and at all times the crew were friendly and helpful. The cabins were clean and pleasant, and the cuisine excellent, even catering for my slightly 'plain food' requirement! There were 18 persons on our boat, which seemed like a good number Our only small regret was that we had only been booked in for one night whereas we felt two would have been better. Certainly one of the highlights of our trip around Vietnam and,in our opinion, not to be missed.

we were on one of the dragon pearl boats with our host Tony. 20 on board and we all got on well, 4 kids, with some older and younger couples, so a good mix. I did a lot of research when picking our cruise, and decided to cross my fingers, pay the bit extra (about $350 p/person) and we went with Indochina Junk and it was a good choice. We were picked up right on time from our hotel in a beautiful mini van to seat 7, on the inside it was like a limmo. Our family of 4 shared the van with 2 other ladies who were picked up after us. It is a bit of a hike to get there, even when you are in a very nice van, so spending 2 nights on the cruise is the only way to go. The van had wifi and blue tooth so we put on our own music from our Ipads. We stopped half way for 30 minutes, this was good to break the journey and allowed us to stretch our legs. Others complain the stop is too touristy we were fine with it, nobody forces you to buy anything if you don't want it. we bought some ice creams and had a look around the shop. Upon arrival the communication was good, about 35 minutes later we got on a smaller boat that took us out a short way to our cruise. We began with a beautiful lunch out on the open deck, it was perfect. For our family we decided not to have everyone with seafood (50/50) and this worked out well as we got a wider variety of dishes to taste. Food was plentiful you don't go hungry. The staff were all very helpful. Our cruise host Tony was very good, he was knowledgeable, and although he has worked on these cruises for many many years he didn't lack energy or motivation. We all enjoyed everything, there was nothing we would change. The bay was beautiful (clean and quiet) the scenery doesn't change, but you don't want it to, the limestone rocks are gorgeous. We had a couple of other Indochina Junks around us at times, although always at a distance. Tony and the staff were very good to my 7 year old as they played soccer with him on the beach for quite a long time. To be honest I think they enjoyed it as much as my son did. We loved the cruise, a highlight of our 3 week self organised tour, so we did see quite a bit of Vietnam to compare it with. We tossed up whether we should go on a newer boat as there are plenty to choice from, but we would not have changed anything. The dinner in the cave was a great alternative to eating on the boat, and the cave was beautifully presented. The chefs prepared everything on BBQ's out the back and they obviously have done it all before and you get a really unique experience. You only get the cave dinner with booking on the Dragon Pearls boat as no other boat offers this. The checkout was smooth, we returned on a standard mini bus (which was fine) as not everybody gets the limmo bus, but maybe see if you can request it, at least for one leg of your journey.
