“An extraordinary family!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2011

We were travelling for 12 months around the world and found ourselves in the temperate climate of Dalat in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. We volunteered to teach at a local English language school and stayed at the Tien An Hotel for four months! During that time, we became very close friends of the family and the hotel owner, knowing that a married couple need a different sort of accommodation for a lengthy stay, turned the top floor of the hotel into an appartment for us - overnight!
The family provided us with cooking facilities, tables, chairs, pots, pans, 'fridge, etc., and we 'set up home' on the top floor complete with an enormous roof terrace. :-)
This is an extraordinary family, full of love and consideration which is reflected in the standard
of hotel - the best example of 'western' comfort that we'd found in Vietnam with its very clean, comfortable beds in en-suite rooms. Breakfast is wonderful! Cereals, breads, fruit, meats and eggs ("Would you like an egg?"). We're still friends to this day. Highly recommended. *****

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel have a lovely view of the Biddhist Temple and its gardens.

My wife and I stayed in Thien An for two days on our second visit to Dalat. The hotel is very good, clean, well furnished, has all the necessary mod-cons, but we are moving tomorrow to Dreams which is run by the same family and about a kilometre closer to most of the points of interest in Dalat.

The breakfasts in Thien An are just as good as those that we remember from our stay in Dreams 2 three years back. The proprietor is very friendly and tries hard, but unfortunately does not have good English.

A bit far from the center of town, but not bad. Rooms are comfortable enough, and the included breakfast is very good with cooked to order eggs.

Lovely people, great breakfast, average and noisy room for 25 USD, 6 fast computers and wifi available. Location not the best, but somehow dalat doesn't have a real city centre.

Nice, basic family hotel...nothing fancy but spotless, good value and very friendly and helpful owner. ( vegemite and peanut butter at breakfast)...A bit of a walk from the centre but nothing too hard. They will recommend the Trong Dong restaurant a few doors down. Keep on walking, it's not that good. We started a 3 day easyrider trip from here to Nga Trang...The guys the owner recommended were instantly in the lobby as the request left my lips...They were good trustworthy guides...you will get constantly pestered by touts for these trips so it was worth this stay to get a couple that were recommended...Ask for Tiep..(.we hit a dog and came off...he was mortified but it wasn't his fault, he is a careful rider.)...there's a little part of me that will always be Vietnam..( ie: the skin off my knuckles....R

We had a wonderful adventurous time in Dalat and Thien An Hotel was a great place to come back to each evening. The rooms were luxurious and very clean, the breakfasts delicious and the staff/ owner especially helpful and friendly. The breakfast and free internet/ wifi are a real bonus. An extremely comfortable stay!

We would give it the highest recommendation. Thank you.

Christy D.

We booked this hotel via e-mail after checking it out on tripadvisor.
We were very happy with our choice, the 4 of us had two double rooms which we could not fault. Many reviewers comment on the stairs in vietnam but that is how they are built.
If you want lifts you might have to stay/pay in 4-5 star hotels. We are in our late 50s and would not be put off by them. The rooms were very clean, beds brilliant, hot water, room safe and excellent wifi. The walk into town was 10 minutes which was not a problem.
The manager was friendly and looked after us well with advice and inquirys as to our on going plans.
The breakfast (included in room charge) was one of the best we had in our travels.
AND for the aussies there was vegemite!!!
On previous trips to vietnam we have stayed in some fairly expensive hotels, but after this trip and staying here we will never again stay in the cold unfriendly large establishments.
Thank you Thien an for making our stay an enjoyable one.

Room Tip: book with confidence, a very good establishment
