My friends and I visited Da Lat last weeekend. We originally intended to have lunch at another local vietnamese restaurant but the place was close. We had no idea where to find good local meal, so we asked our driver for recommendation. He said Ba Hung is a good choice.
Although none of the staff speak a word of English, the fact that they have just one menu makes it simple enough for us to order food. You just need to tell them how many serving of 'nem noung' you need. The cost is VND45,000 for a serving.
Four of us order 2 at first, the red meat is served with this crispy thingy (I think it's crackling) and loads of veggies. There's also flour sheet and peanut-y dipping sauce on a side. What you have to do is spread out the flour sheet, top with some green, put in some meat and crackling, roll it up, and voila!
The first bite was a bit confusing for all of us as we're more familiar with the 'adapted' taste of vietnamese food in Thailand. But I can say for sure that we finished the two serving within like 10 minutes. And still wanted more.
We decided to order one more serving to share. Since nobody there speaks English, it took us about 15 minutes until we get more food. The lady thought we want to check, when in fact we actually want more food. We almost gave up and got the bill instead of having more nem noung. Luckily, one of my friends did some body language signing 'we want more' and the lady somehow got it at the end, so she went to the back and brought us more food.
The service is great despite the language barrier. The food is pretty tasty too. There're people walking in almost all the time we sat there. The price is very very affordable too. I recommend if you want some local food experience, Ba Hung is one of the place you shouldn't miss.
