“Great for a getaway but did feel like something was missing?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013

We stayed for three nights and had a great time, despite the wet and cold weather.

The rooms are great, with lots of character and the beds were very comfortable. Though I found the standard pillows far to uncomfortable as they were so big! The pillow menu is definitely needed.

The bathrooms were great, nice and spacious with a huge standalone tub. However, when we used it we realised that the plug didn't seal properly and the water had to constantly be refilled.

The grounds and gardens are nice but could do with a bit more attention and the communal areas of the villa's looked a little ignored.

Breakfast was good and with the exception of our first nights order, all the food we ate at the restaurant was good if a little overpriced for what you get. It was actually the best food we ate in Dalat, which seems to be the hardest place we've been to in Vietnam to find a good meal - not a single restaurant we visited (with the exception of Oron and the Ana Mandara's), we'd wish to visit again simply as the food was the worst we've had in Vietnam.

The Ana Mandara staff were great and really helpful when needed, but overall I felt something was missing considering the prices you pay. Perhaps it's the slightly old and run down feel to some communal areas and sections of the grounds?

The pool was nice, heated which was needed but the pool bar was definitely lacking attention and the kids room was pretty poor - and freezing. The cushions on the sunbeds were also a little moldy and often wet when we came to use them.

The spa definitely lived up to it's reputation - both our massages were extremely professional and one of the best we've had in Asia.

Overall it was a good stay, the staff are great and the rooms have a lot of atmosphere.

Spent 2 nights at The Ana Mandara in Dalat. Firstly, the spa service is top notch, one of the best massages. Secondly, the restaurant was fantastic, dinner and breakfast. Thirdly, the resort offer a picnic by the lake driven in a vintage car..was romantic and relaxing, it is a great package to take up. I just emailed the resort before I left home to book it in.

The room, bathroom, etc are nice, clean & of course old with the french colonial era. If you need some places for traditional, peaceful, then, here you are ;) It's quite far from the central of Dalat but they offer free bus every morning & pick you back every afternoon so that would not be a problem, just enjoy your stay

the rooms and especially bathrooms are nice. Taking up the french colonial era, the villas with wood floor and old fashion bathtub is a real pleasure. However, the restaurant is awful. the food is not good for a very high price. the breakfast is very good though.

I am not sure what we enjoyed more, the hotel or the town. Both were a great experience and memorable. We stayed 2 nights in Dalat. The hotel is away from the city center but a 3min taxi ride will put you in the middle of it all. The room was incredible and the entire hotel layout was just gorgeous and peaceful. We only ate breakfast at the hotel, which was delicious and plentiful (of all the Vietnamese hotels we stayed this had by far the best breakfast). Tea in hand we walked around the property after breakfast to see the beautiful scenery around.

The staff was so helpful, professional and kind. They were there for us with every need, in fact everytime I called the front desk the phone never rang more than once.

I never heard any dogs barking or outside noise, so not sure what others are talking about. Our experience was completely peaceful.

STRONGLY reccommend this hotel and town.

Resort and style of buildings unique and we loved the restored 1920/30's ambience of the villas, we had a large spacious and airy room with huge bed in centre looking out over the rural countryside ( not as described in a previous review as being in a slum area, just normal Vietnamese countryside) Food in restaurant was very good though not cheap, but this to be expected in a hotel of this category. We got what we paid for. Breakfast extensive served either outside or in the cool shade of the terrace or indoors in the main restauran. All in all a nice cool relaxed oasis during our two week travels in southern vietnam

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms have better views

The villas at this hotel, built in the 1920's- 1930's, are superb. They have been beautifully restored and furnished. There are about 70 rooms in 20 villas. However there are big differences between rooms. Some are dark but some are not. Some are huge suites while some cheaper rooms are tiny. While I loved the architecture, my stay was marred by dogs barking at night for hours on end. We were forced to request a room change to get away from the noise. This resulted in giving up a beautiful suite for an inferior room but being charged the same price. We thought this situation was badly handled by management. Food at the hotel vastly overpriced but there are lots of good local cafes down town.

Room Tip: Hotel has good specials for last minute booking. When booking request a room away from the neighbour...

Dear valued guest,

Warmest greetings from Ana Mandara Villas Dalat Resort and Spa!

We highly appreciate for all your value feedback. About the issue related to dog barking at night time we would like to say sorry for the inconvenience during the time of your staying. These dogs belongs to the neighbors – who live outside the resort. Although we had some sotutions, but not stop all.
About size of the room – as you know, our villas was built a long time ago by French. During the process of improvement and innovation these villas, we tried to maintain the unique personalities of the original design, that why the area of the rooms are not the same.
We are also checking some rooms – which are a little bit dark – as your mention - and we will have the solution for this issue very soon. We always want to offer our guests the best service. That’s why we always choose the freshest most safety and healthy ingredients for food . And this is the reason why our F&B prices are higher than out side café.
We hope that you will allow us another chance to serve you again in the near future.

Thanks & Best regards,

Nguyen Van Vo
