We arrived at Truc Lam by cable car - the ride was very enjoyable. There was hardly anybody using the cable car, so we had no problems in having a car to ourselves.
Truc Lam is a pagoda, monastery, meditation and education centre. There are many monks and novice monks wandering around and tending the temples. The gardens around the complex are delightful and the shrubs have been trained in different shapes which makes for a bit of difference. The view to Tuyen Lam lake through the pine trees is quite beautiful on a sunny day.
There were not a lot of people on the day we visited so it was a very enjoyable walk around the different facilities and temples (and a small museum). There were a few hawkers at the entrance but not many.

Truc Lam was positively crawling with tourists (it's a national holiday today in Vietnam), but despite that the temple was beautiful and peaceful. It's not exactly a historic site having been built in the early 90s, but the gardens are lush, and the views from the cable car are beautiful!

We only had a few hours before our bus left for Da Nang, and this was an easy, quick (we accomplished the whole thing in about an hour), and nice way to spend our last bit of time in Dalat.

We decided to check out the cable car that leads to the Buddhist Temple. The ride was peaceful and serene. We only rode with the two of us in the car which was nice as well. The only issue is some tourists can be very rude and just jump in front instead of waiting in line.

Truc Lam Pagoda is best accessed from a spectacular 1.5 mile long cable car ride. The 12 minute journey follows Deo Prenn mountain pass and provides great views of Tuyen Lam Lake up ahead. The pagoda itself is rather touristy. The size of the coach park gives you an idea of how popular it is before you have even entered. Its a Zen Buddhist Temple built in 1993. The buildings are dull inside but this is made up for by the extensive well maintained gardens in which they are set.

Monasteries can offer two kinds of beneficial experience: retreat from the mundane world, and spiritual inspiration.
As a retreat, this is great. The gardens and views are utterly beautiful and provide an atmosphere of serenity.
Spiritual inspiration? Not so much. YMMV.
Nice that there's no charge for anything.
