Owner description: In its heyday, Dalat Station boasted three arrivals and departures daily. The French built the railway station itself, while the zigzagging tracks were planned and implemented by the Swedish, experts in tricky terrain.

“Railway back in history”
Reviewed June 14, 2012

For Da Lat being the epicenter of Kitsch, this is an authentic reminder of the great past this place once had. The visit of the train station is free. More lucky than others, we got on a train to Trai Mat. Winding through fields of strawberries and veggies, this ride gives a close impression on farming life in the Highlands. The return ride takes 1.5 hrs for the approx. 9 km and includes a visit of the Linh Phuoc Pagoda. Although declared as "cremaillere", this stretch has no cog rails. Unfortunately the steep and winding track to sea level is no longer in operation. The steam engines originally delivered by the Swiss Locomotive works were repatriated to Switzerland, completely overhauled and run now on the Furka Steam Railways. Hopefully Vietnamese plans come true to rebuild the train connection from Thap Cham up to Da Lat. If you want to escape the touristic side of Da Lat, this is the thing to do.

“Art deco railway station. Who wants more?”
Reviewed June 8, 2012

This railway station is only one of many art deco souvenirs the french left in their 'Indochine'. And it's a lovely one breathing the spirit of the french bathing cities along the Atlantic Ocean. But don't, here we are far away from the sea. We're inland and the temperatures are quite pretty. The gardeners love their job and the area around the station is full of flowerbeds. Inside, the station has lost hardly anything of its original charm. Mind the typical art deco characters, the clock, the furniture or the timetable. Outside again, some trains are waiting along the lovely designed platforms. The oldest ones are out of use. It's a little Russian one that will bring you to Trại Mát, where you have an hour to admire a fascinating local temple. Afterwards the train brings everyone back to the starting point.

“Vintage Railway station”
Reviewed June 7, 2012

It is a well kept vintage railway station and unfortunately the train rides were not on when we visited. The 2 trains at the platforms were very interesting and it is worth a look when in Dalat

“We were at the station and went on tour area with nice old train”
Reviewed May 25, 2012

The train travels half hour through farmland.
So come down for half an hour and repeat the same train.
When going down do not miss the visit to the magnificent temple, one of the most beautiful we have seen.
