Two nights we went to restaurants recommended by our hotel or our driver. Both seemed to be popular with locals, even though in the city center. But none of the staff speaks English except to point to the toilet. And the menus translate the Vietnamese to really bizarre things in English that are totally unhelpful. This is a big tourist destination so I don't understand why they can't help us out a bit. We did our best to order something that seemed to have some ingredients we would want to eat, but the preparations and combinations were mostly mysterious. When the food came out we had to choose our dish by process of elimination. We could tell that the food was of good quality and we left full so I suppose we should just chalk it up to dining in a foreign country and stop whining.
