The beach sand is totally white... very good for snorkeling.. but few places in the water there are sharp corals so just take care while swimming. There s a lot of activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, banana boat ride which is quiet fun, para-sailing etc.

Went here as part of a day trip - Coral and Raya islands with Raya Princess Tours. We thought we were on a snorkelling trip but on arrival at Coral island were told that there is no snorkelling there. The beach and sea were packed, even though it was low season, with little space for sunbathing/swimming.

There were up to 3 boats at a time offering parascending which looked horrendous - approx. 1 min round trip and very dubious practices - a young child was climbing the harnesses on, there was approx. a 5 sec turn around time and for half the time the guys on the beach were blowing loud whistles at the person in the air and shouting at them to pull on the parachute cords (they were normal parachutes, not parascending ones) for the landing - most of which consisted of people being bundled to the ground but 1 poor guy was dumped quite far out in the sea. When he eventually made it back to shore the completely drenched parachute was just strapped straight onto the next person!

There were also a number of people scuba diving, straight off the beach - goodness knows why, there were barely any fish!

We only had an hour here but wondered what we were going to do with it, as it was definitely not somewhere we would have chosen to go had we realised what it was like. Luckily the sea was clear and most people were swimming in the shallow water (with life jackets on) so we swam out past them and spent the time investigating a fairly recently shipwrecked fishing boat.

We then had to wait a good 20 mins past the allotted time, in the sweltering heat, to be allowed back on the boat.

In summary I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone; however much they charged the activities on offer couldn't have been worth it and if you like cramped, noisy (mostly due to parascending guys' whistles and shouts) beaches then I'm sure they're plenty of other places to go without having to pay for the day trip.

We have been to Thailand over 15 times in 20 years and have been going over to Coral Island most of these times. It was beautiful walk straight into the water from the beach with the snorkels given and then wow, fish, coral the works. Grab a loaf of bread and feed not only small but rather large colourful fish.
We came over today 15 May 2013, the boats have completely destroyed everything. Nothing is there anymore but a lovely beach which you can swim anywhere around Phuket but save the 650 Baht per person required for the day tour. So many boats there now everything is destroyed. Its so disappointing. This beautiful place has now been wrecked nothing but rubbish and white sand on the beach. A total waste of time if you think you're going over there to swim with fish and even feed. The Thai people are lovely but unless you want to just swim and pay 650 baht then don't waste your time.

Rent a long tail from Rawai beach for the day, can take up to 8 - about 1500THB - much cheaper than the powerboats and more fun - and get them to take you to Coral Island, Koh He. Lovely beach - stay at the opposite end from the tour groups on Long beach for a peaceful time and a reasonably good beach restaurant - and also visit Banana beach a bit further on for snorkelling! Come back via Koh Bon for the sunset. Wonderful!
