“Do not go here!!”
Reviewed August 29, 2013 via mobile

How this place is allowed to operate is beyond me! Don't even know where to start it was so awful...

Tiny cages for leopards and tigers, smaller than our hotel room no grass all concrete and they smelled like they had never been cleaned. Tigers pacing around or chained up.

Elephants chained by ankles so they cannot move at all, standing swaying - the staff said they sway because they are happy...what a joke!

Crocodile enclosure looks more like a breeding ground for handbags..more than 30+ crocs in tiny area no shade hardly any water.

Monkey areas are no better, all concrete no trees - it's awful :(

We did one lap of the place and had to leave I've never felt so sad and helpless before!

I wish my money had gone to a more responsible place than this - they don't care about the animals and it shows in the disgusting condition of the zoo.

Please please DO NOT go to this place!

There are far better places to see animals up close for cheaper!

Bangla Rd (at night) - see Lemur & giant lizards 100 baht for photos

Kata View Point - giant eagles 100 baht for photos

Siam Niramit Show - elephant rides and feeding plus photos starting at 100 baht

Elephant camps south Phuket - elephant rides, snake & monkey show prices starting at 50 baht for photos

“Phuket zoo cruelty to animals.”
Reviewed August 27, 2013 via mobile

Didn't expect to see such sadness. Phuket zoo was like something from the dark ages
with awful concrete enclosure with iron bars no trees green light or any form of stimulation for the monkeys. Elephants
were swaying back and forth in a concrete enclosure waitng to do tricks for people.
I would recommend anyone who has a love for animals to stay away.

Not a great place to spend your holiday, you wont leave feeling like you money has gone towards the animals or their welfare. It is everything that is bad about Thailand all wrapped between 4 walls.

My partner & I went to Phuket Zoo whilst on holiday in June 2013 & it was an absolutely terrible & disgusting experience. The animals are all in extremely small cages & look like they haven't had a decent feed in ages, the way they come up to the fence hoping that you'd feed them was really sad. The tigers were so thin you could see their ribs & their fur was just hanging off them.
The owners really do have a lot to learn about animal welfare & should take a look at Sydney's Taronga Zoo for inspiration.
