On our recent trip to Phuket, we went to the Phuket Zoo.
I have no words to express my DISGUST at this place.
From the rubbish everywhere- in the animals 'enclosures' (term used loosely- as most of them were in cages far to small for their species!) and the stray cats and kittens roaming the zoo grounds.
The staff couldnt care less for the maintenance of the property- and certainly no good intentions for the animals.
The WORST part of our short visit (yes- we left after a short 20mins due to not being able to hold back tears of disgust and horror for these poor animals!!!) was seeing how SAD each animal looked. Each were desperate in trying to get attention and food. Even the birds!
It was horrific.
Do not go! By going you will be supporting this horrid place and keep them running. Hopefully without the publics support, they will be forced to sell the animals to other zoo's who can treat these animals better. Such a sad, sad place.

The biggest mistake of our trip to Phuket was visiting the zoo. The animals look so distressed and it was very upsetting to see. I spent most of the time in tears it was unbearable to see the elephants chained up by their feet so they can’t move around and some of the big cats were even caged in 4 metre x 4 metre cages. Tourists are able to get up close and personal with some of the more unfortunate animals and have their photos taken it's totally obscene and cruel. The monkey show is hideous. Monkeys are trained to lift weights, hold signs and reluctantly, act like humans. We were left feeling heartbroken. The zoo should be closed and those beautiful animals should live out the rest of their lives in the wide open spaces they deserve.

You cannot call this place a zoo it is a place of utter sadness. The animals are kept in appalling conditions, very small cages, with inadequate food and water supplies. Many of them looked ill and desperately unhappy. I urge no one to visit this place until the monsters who run it hugely improve the welfare standards.

My girlfriend and I visited phuket zoo out of boredom and we regretted it instantly. The price was 500 baht eleft quite pricey for the quality of the park. Animals were in cages far too small and looked sickly and unhealthy. There were at least 40+ crocodiles in the one small enclosure with mucky green sludge all over the water. Monkeys were in small enclosures with no room to jump/swing. Goats had chewed a hole in their gate and were getting their head stuck in the hole, their hooves looked very under cared for, quite cracked and looked painful. There were 6 elephants in the one enclosure which were all chained to the ground with no room to move which caused them to sway back and forth which I now know means they are under stimulated. The tigers enclosure was small and we could hear the tigers crying out as we walked past.
All in all it was a horrible experience and my girlfriend was almost in tears due to animal mistreatment. We left within an hour of arriving and were glad to see the back of this so called zoo.

This is the worst place I have ever been to. It is run down, dirty and the treatment of the animals made want to vomit! The elephants spend their day chained 1meter away from a pole. Their only movement is when they come out to do the shows. They are malnourished and you can see the sadness in their eyes. The crocodiles were beaten in public during the show in order to do what the 'trainers' wanted them to do. The tiger that everyone talks about is SO drugged up he can barely open his eyes and is hit for every picture so that he opens his mouth. The same goes for the poor orang-utan The rest of the animals are piled on top of each other in tiny cages. The place stinks of urine. I can't believe that the Thai government considers this an attraction and that PETA hasn't been involved. No one should step in this place and continue to support this disgusting practice.
