“Paradise, with a message (and great food)”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

The Birds and Bees resort is an oasis of peace and tranquility on the edge of Pattaya. The town of Pattaya has cleaned up quite a bit over the past years, but in the evening I would still not see it as a family location.

And that's where Birds and Bees is great; you can visit the town during the day (take a left at the main road), or go sailing from Pattaya's little yacht club, Ocean Marina (take a right on the main road!). And in the evening you can enjoy the great food. You really can't go wrong with any of the food-picks.
Quite some of the vegetables and herbs are grown next to the lodge.

And white rabbits are roaming free. Great to just sit at the pool and gaze at the ocean, or sit at the garden and look at the white rabbits hopping around.

Wonderful staff as well, all being from poorer villages of the North of Thailand, being taught English and about the hospitality industry to have skills to take back to the North. Apart from staff training, the money of the resort goes into building schools in the North and the lodge has its share of interesting and funny life-messages around politics, sustainability and family planning.

Great place!

Room Tip: I stayed there 3 times and never had a noisy room. Even the outward facing rooms are fine.

Birds and Bees is owned by Khun Mechai who is known as mr Condom. Despite the name and being near Pataya (a town with lots of sex for sale) B&B is a great family resort - perfect for a break from Bangkok. My wife and I took our 10 and 8 year old children for a weekend break. Pool is lovely, beach is good. Staff friendly.

Once again I'm back at this lovely jewel of a place, a secret oasis, tucked away in Pattaya. Birds & Bees is a great place for families, couples and single people because there is something to interest all tastes and desires.
It is great to see so many families using the facilities, kids bonding together in a natural way, watching the tame rabbits, playing hide'n'seek in the gardens, frolicking on the beach or the kids' pool.
For anyone with an educational interest, the Mechai Pattana School has a branch in the grounds, and it is possible to visit the school and talk with the students by arrangement. The show garden is an interesting way to pass the time.
All in all, this is a great place to relax and refill your soul with energy.

Room Tip: all rooms are good, so it depends on whether you want a view of the sea, the pool, the garden or if...

First let me say Pattaya is not the best location for a family holiday but this hotel is. From the moment you see the rabbits running around in the tropical garden and the semi-private beach, you realise you have found somewhere a bit special. Another good sign is the ex-pat residents arriving in the evening to go to the restaurant, the food is Thai and very good. I would rather not to have to explain to my children what a condom is (there are 100's on display, thankfully in packets) but I do understand why they do it. Profits go to a foundation of some sort.

Just a great and easy getaway from Bangkok. Very convenient, especially if you have children!
Nice pool, nice beach. Pataya, but not pataya: perfect for the family! Our kids are still talking about 'this place where they can feed the fish and where rabbits run around' (of course they also liked the colorful table decoration and other details :-).
And...we loved the food!

Nicest thing about this place is the restaurant, the Thai food is very very good, the beach is quite quiet and not too many hawkers to pester you. We like it here and the gardens are also beautiful with rabbits running around.

I was very pleased when we first arrived to the hotel. My children loved the jungles, the rabbits, and I've found all these signs very amusing. As this is our first time in Pattaya, we relied a lot on hotel reception for information about the place. However, whilst I was very grateful with their help, they were ripping us off with everything they helped to book for us!

The front desk helped us to book tickets for Tiffany's show. The ticket is abt 500-600 Baht, but they charged us 1000 Baht each. The next day we asked them to order a taxi for us to go to Rayong to visit our friends. They gave us the price of 3000 Baht. We asked them to phone the driver who we met a couple of days ago and check how much he would charge to go there, and they came back with the same price. We decided to use the driver we know and then they got back to us that they found someone who would charge us for 2600 Baht. And naively we went with the later choice.

It was not until later we found out through our Thai friend from the driver that he only charges 1500 Baht to go there, but the hotel staff asked him to collect 2600 Baht from us then of course hand over the 1100 Baht to them after he finished. And obviously, they probably didn't even call the other driver or just simply lied to us about the price!

They have a sign says 'Don't Steal - the government doesn't like the competition' but at the same time, their hotel staff are ripping off their own guests. We couldn't confront the hotel because the driver asks us not to say anything, otherwise he would never get any jobs with them ever again.

I just would like to warn anyone who is new to the hotel, the place that NOT to trust the smily faces at all! I'm not sure if the founder of this hotel is aware of what's going on here. Certainly it isn't correct for the hotel ripping off their own guests. If there was a charge for helping guests who stay in the hotel, then it should have been written down and signposted at the front desk!

I would never ever return or recommend Birds & Bees to anyone for this reason! My friends were very interested in this lovely little resort which most of the profits would go to help with schools in Thailand. We would love to give and help but certainly not while we are being ripped off!!!

Thank you for drawing our attention to these matters. We do not usually respond to guests’ comments as we prefer these comments to be impartial and stand alone. However, in the case of your taxi booking, there seems to be some misunderstanding and confusion as to where the 1100 Baht was paid. After your initial complaint the day you booked the taxi, we looked into the matter and learnt that the taxi company is the recipient of the majority of that amount, not the hotel’s front desk, which was explained to you in detail.
In Thailand it is common practice for a hotel front desk to charge a small fee for processing requests for outside transportation : usually, and in this case, it was 300 Baht. In the past our front desk has booked taxis through a contractor, to which taxis must pay a surcharge in order to take passengers. In your case, you were charged 2600 Baht for the taxi ride, 300 of which was our surcharge for handling the bookings, 1500 was paid to the driver and the remainder, namely 800 Baht, was the taxi company’s fee. The issue of the fairness of the driver’s final take versus the amount that the taxi booking company takes is, unfortunately and ultimately, beyond our control. It is evident that the taxi company was endeavouring to bias you against our resort.
As a result of this situation, we have changed our policy regarding the bookings of taxi/limousine services through our front desk. We have eliminated the use of any contractors, and now employ a safe, reputable and insured taxi company. For all bookings beyond this company, we encourage guests to make their own bookings.
As concerns the charges for the Tiffany Show, we charge the same amount for the show that anyone at the Box Office is required to pay. The tickets currently cost 1200 Baht for foreigners, and 600 Baht for Thai Nationals, which would account for the pricing they had mentioned to you at the Box Office. Again, while seemingly unfair in nature, the issue of charging a higher entrance fee for foreigners versus Thai nationals is ultimately beyond our control.
We are sorry to hear that these unfortunate issues had put a damper on your good experience at our resort, and we do hope that in light of this clarification, you would reconsider choosing us for your holiday in the future.
