“A romantic place in a typical thai resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2010

I'm visiting the Sugar Hut Resort since 4 years now. I'm always happy to come back to that romatic place. It's a tranquil place in that hectic Pattaya.
Unfortunately the (new) owner of the resort is not investing enough money to keep the place outstanding. The rooms, the restaurant and the pools getting more and more poor. More and more lights are broken or shot down. The bar under the rastaurant is closed since years and less people visiting the restaurant, even the food is still good. To safe money, they switch off the wireless internet at midnight, the time I always want to chat with my friends in europe.

Disappointed! Great location with a beautiful resort in the Jungle... BUT very poor service. Lack of staffs who all seem bored. Low season means very low service. Room service below average, no drinking water in room and excessive prices for all services. They even refused to book me a Taxi back to Bangkok, trying to sell me their Limousine service at THB 3,300 per trip (normal price is THB 1200-1500). What a scam...
This beautiful resort does not deserve such a poor service level.

Ahh the fond memories of the Sugar Hut! We stayed here for 4 nights - originally only planned to stay for 2 but liked it so much we stayed a bit longer.

The rooms are your own private little huts on stilts in the middle of what feels like a tropical jungle. Very cute and romantic. The beds are on the floor though so dont think that i could have stayed longer than 4 days. Also, i NEVER get bitten when on holiday, but my god did i get bitten on my legs whilst staying here - a small price to pay though for the beauty of staying in this gorgeous oasis in the middle of crazy pattaya.

The room was serviced excellently everyday and we had loads of meals by room services which were all lovely. Every detail was catered for.

There were 3 pools - our hut overlooked the main pool. It was really quiet though - no one there apart from us on most days.

Ahh wish I was back there now...

I have just returned home from a trip to Thailand which included a stay of three nights at this resort. It was my first trip to Thailand and as such was blown away with the level of customer service and outstanding value for money at the various hotels we stayed at. That is until I ventured across the Suger Hut.

Top end prices for a rather mundane resort. The staff did not look exactly pleased to see us when we arrived and everything appeared to be too much of a hassle for them. I enquired about a late check out and was informed 1400 hours was the latest possible and that would cost an extra £25. The resort was empty and it felt that we were the only ones staying there but we decided to check out at 12 and save them the apparent enormous hassle we may cause.

The service was OK. The food was rather bland on the two evenings we eat there and the breakfast was average.

The accomodation is a bit of a hassle. It is split into two seperate buildings. The living area, just big enough to get in and watch TV and the bedroom bathroom area. The resort is infested with mossies and as such you need all the sprays and the like that they supply. The net over the bed prevents any air circulating around and you normally fall asleep after 2 or 3 hours of sweating through exhaustion. The air con is great at being very noisy but not particularly good at cooling the room. This is because it is an old unit positioned next to the front door and at ground level. All the criteria filled for making it very inefficient.

My biggest gripe was a lack of space. There is nowhere to put your cases or store your belongings. You have to live out of your case and put up with tripping over it everytime you try and get back into the sweat box bedroom. The lighting is terrible. There is a torch in the bedroom which I thought was for going outside but I suspect that it is for getting around your room. One of the staff fell down about 6 stairs after leaving our hut one night as the lighting is so bad. Hopefully he's OK but he certainly limped away looking a bit embarrassed. The thing is - he actually knows his way around.

All in all, quite a nice place to go for a look around and have something to eat but don't waste your money actually staying there. The grounds are really nice but the practicality of actually staying there outweighs that by a long way. There are many, many nice hotels in the area which are much better value for money. If this is your thing then just buy a small tent, throw all your cases in and sit around a dimming torch. Same experience but £80 a night cheaper!

  • Liked — Lovely grounds
  • Disliked — Badly lit and poorly planned set up

I read the critics and I agreed with the three positive ones, our experience: A family of 5, 3 childern age 15, 8, 7.

As in most countries, to get the best out of people is to be polite and friendly, you will find that you get it back with interest.

Our experience in the Sugar Hut, was such that by democratic means all decided that we want to go back to the Sugar Hut, because the lovely and privet bungalow with 2 bedrooms, the excellent frendly service, however, sometimes slow but who cares on holiday.

In total we can say: Caring, Friendly, Helpfull, Clean and for us a demonstration of what we assume is Thai.

Visiting Pattaya for the first time I read about the Sugar Hut Resort many very different reviews from 1 to 10, mostly stating that it wasn't 4-star standard. I guess all these guest were expecting Marriott Standard unregarded the place and its intention ("The Thai Experience").

Taking the resort as it is, a thai resort which will show and live thai tradition both in buildings and (award winning) cuisine, it is really an excellent hideaway from Pattaya and Jomtien, where you will meet all the other tourists. On the other hand you can reach these places very easily as the Pickup-Bus route passes in front of the resort. Lazy people will get a special golf cart transfer even for the 250 meter to the main street!

I stayed there 6 nights in april 2007 (Songkhran) and found it lovely, or, as one t-shirt of the resort says: "It's not for everybody" And the rates of the resort help to keep the standard!

I travel to Thailand every three months. Sugar Hut Resort is an awsesome place to stay at. I like the true Thai experience when i visit Thailand. The jungle atmosphere and the Thai style huts and of course the unbeliveable food from the restaurant all add up to a winning combination and a unique holiday. Yes I could stay at a hotel like you would find in any city but why not experience Thailand the Thai way? Coming from Las Vegas the price is very good.($140U.S.) Sure it may be expensive for Pattaya but believe me it is worth every penny. The staff is very friendly and polite. The bottom line is treat people the way you like to be treated and you will fall in love not only with the Sugar Hut but Thailand as well.
