We wanted to ride an elephant while visiting Thailand and after reading about Pattaya Elephant Village it sounded like a good place. Since it was our kids birthday we wanted to make the day special and asked for a ride and for the show. Unfortunately they did not run the show the day we could visit them, so they suggested that we took the combination trekking instead, and so we did.
They picked us up at our hotel and when we entered the park we bought some bananas to feed the elephants. This was very fun. After feeding them we went for a ride, which also was good fun. Then we went for a walk, visited the silk farm, took a boat (they called it rafting, but this was very different from what we call rafting in Norway :-) ) and went for a ride with ox cart. After that it was lunch and then they drove us back to the hotel.
I must say that the elephants are the reason for visiting the place. The rest we could do without, so it was a bit disappointing that the show was off that day. I think the elephant show and ride would be a better deal for us.
One thing that was a bit annoying: The guide mentioned that we could tip the persons working there throughout the stay. It shouldn't be necessary to tip when you have paid 2000 baht pr person.
At the end they tried to sell us a DVD as well at the cost of 1000 baht. We didn't buy it, but some of the other guests did. The quality was ok, but for us the picture we took by us selves was enough.
I have heard that the elephants are treated badly many places, but never got this feeling at the Pattaya Elephant Village. So I would certainly recommend the elephant part of the park.
