“Umbrellas and Skyscrapers”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2014

I went to Pattaya once before in 1990 but it has changed out of all recognition since then. Before I remember only the beach road which had a few hotels and a couple of sois which had some small buildings and a few half built ones. Now the place is a huge city of sleaze. There are skyscrapers going up everywhere and the small guest houses they use to have are gone. The beach is a mass of umbrellas and sunbeds but I only saw a few people swimming. The locals regard the water as too dirty and the only people I saw in it were westerners who obviously haven't yet discovered nicer beaches in Krabi or Samui. There are lots of local people offering coconuts to drink from, and massages. If you walk on the landward side of the beach road you will get accosted by numerous tailors trying to start up a conversation in order to interest you in buying a suit. I have never met anyone who has ever bought one as it would get crushed up in a suitcase or rucksack. Nobody ever wears suits in Thailand because it is far too hot , (usually about 34 degrees by day) but I am sure if you really want a suit then check out these guys. There is a cheap eating bazar between soi 6 and 7 where you can get a tasty Thai meal for about 50 baht, and there are lots of clothes stalls, bag and sunglasses vendors and open air bars. The beach is OK for some nice photos or a bit of sunbathing if that is your thing but I would not swim there due to the poluted water.

it is an okay beach. Very dirty and polluted. lot of bad points: the chair vendors are very rude and money minded. Also, if going for Jet ski or para sailing be very sure of the timings .. they will tell you half an hour and the jet ski will end in not more than even15 mins...so please be cautious. They are not at all tourist friendly people. After 6pm , you cannot even walk by the beach side cos of so many women standing and looking for customers. Not at all worth a visit.

“Lively Beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2014

This is one the most lively beach in Thailand. You can have street food, tattoos, massage, water sports along with road shows on this beach. To enjoy the swim & sun you need to go further to the coral islands as the water there is clean transparent an beach is quite clean. Para sailing, deep water (scuba), as well as other water sorts are better in the coral island. You can enjoy the beach in coral island and party all night on the beach.

“Deserves 1st visit, not sure about second ...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2014

The city is for people who love to party, drink and night clubs .. the beach itself is decent, but can't say extra ordinary .. yet a pleasant walk on the beach road during day time .. however, the night is a disaster for people who loves a soothing night walk on the beach. Too many girls (and not so sure girls) just occupying all the places trying to get attention of possible customers ... The coral island is, on the other hand, much much better place with crystal clear water on scenic background. You can either take a speed boat tour (which will cost around 1000 baht for a round trip), or take ferry for 30 baht each way. One downside may be the absence of large waves (or may be it was just the season we went). There are lots of water sports available both at coral island and in Pattaya beach which includes para-sailing, sea walk, banana boat ride, jet-skiing etc.

However night life of pattaya is absolutely for people who like to drink and dance in night clubs .. the whole city turns into a giant night club, with the Walking Street being the capital of the region. Nothing else you can do there at night except visiting clubs and watching strip dancing.

In short, if you want a nice family tour, or peaceful, romantic, calm and beautiful place to spent some pleasant time, stay away as you have hundreds of places only in Thailand which is many times better than Pattaya. But if you want to get lost and wasted in crowd, may be you can give a try.
