“Avoid this hotel”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

Possibly the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. We were staying in a suite. Check in was swamped with young staff standing in a huddle giggling away about the various guests waiting to check in- clearly unaware that westerners can speak Thai! Who cares if the two guys next to us are gay.. Grow up and give me my key... Slapped, unhelpful, rude staff. I asked very politely for a second key and was given one begrudgingly.. A big sigh.. Not a great start..
The room was weird.. The tap handle of the sink basin came off in my hand while trying turn the thing on.. The shower head is defective.. A large inferior cheap attempt at a cool two person attachment.. A pool of water up to my shins.. The drain doesn't work... I ring and ask for ice... No ones ever heard of it... A security woman at my door.. I point to the freezer in the mini bar.. Point to my glass... Nope... An international hotel? The following morning I get a knock at my door- early- strange I had turned the 'do not disturb' button on.. A maid wants to service my room.. I point to the light and repeat 'do not disturb'... She's annoyed! I actually go back to bed laughing at the faulty towers episode I'm having.. I go back to sleep.. Pitter patter of tiny feet... For a brief moment I expect to see my partner but no... It's that maid wondering about with towels- incredible! I want to complain but what would come of it? I ask for an iron twice.. It's on it's way.. It never shows.. I dress for dinner crinkled.. Something I've never done but who cares right? I'm on holiday in the hotel from hell. You couldn't pay me to stay there again. The breakfast is woeful, the staff unsmiling, unhelpful, it's down right depressing. The wifi never worked although I called numerous times to sort it out help was never offered.
Terrible hotel run by terrible staff under terrible management.

Red ants in bed. And they bite... The WIFI did not work. Lousy cleaning 2 soaps for the 2 weeks. Breakfast was cold many mornings. The Air con sounded like a jumbo jet. We got cheated by the reception staff. We asked 4 days in advance if we we could use the room a little bit longer on the check out day and the answer by the ruud boy was no problem. When we checked out we got charged for a whole night. The did also try to steal our deposit. They where very ruud when we told them that no one told us about any extra charge for the longer stay the check out day. And the boy lied and sayed that he di told us.
I'm really sorry I did not read the reviews on trip advisor before booking!!! My worst hotel experience ever. Peter

I have spent time in Pattaya for the past 4 years and watched this hotel being built. It looked so good as it went up and I was excited to try it out. What a mistake. OK the rooms are passable(after all it is a brand new establishment) but they have destroyed the tranquility of Dongtan Beach. They hold horrible seafood bbq,s that hardly anyone attends. While they are setting it up they play such loud music you can hear it quite a ways down the beach. I even heard someone in a nearby condo requesting them to turn it down. Then they hold these enormous parties outside that are deafening for the people staying at the hotel. I had to leave while it was going on. I am writing this as another party outside is going on and I am leaving again as soon as I finish this. Based on the failures of the bbq dinners and the grumbling I hear from other patrons, they will either go bankrupt or be sold. Watch out for losing your money if you book this place. One star is not quite low enough for me.

Room Tip: The hotel is only a few floors high and does not really have long distance views but the corner room...

Where to start!!

On arrival one tends to be impressed by the majestic and large reception all, however the moment one steps out of the cab one realise that not is all well in the "Welcome World"...
To start with, there is no ariconditioning in any of the communal areas, reception, restaurants, corridors etc etc... by contrast the lifts are airconditioned, which is a nice on-and-off contrast when one tryies to reach their room or attend breakfast in the morning.
The problem which have marred my staying at the hotel range from... room aircon stop working in the middle of the night... nightmare to sleep with a system that was pumping out hot air instead of cold, no hot water in the bathrooms, curtain poles that would not close and instead dislodged part of the curtain off the rail... I left the baton on the chair for them to deal with it... I was fed up reporting problems.
By contrast the management seem to be extremely zealous when it comes to getting money off their patrons:
The 3000BHT that one has to be deposit (precautionary reasons) on arrival have yet to be refundewd on my CC, I will be wiating patiently for another week before starting making some serious noise about it.
Also, a local friend who helped me checking in on my arrival, was going to be charged 800BHT for visiting my room one evening after work... I was so shoked I went ballistic at the night proter and reported the problem at the desk the morning aftger... apparently someone was trying to "make a little money on the side".
OK the piece of resistance was... two days before my departure... fire alarm bells going off like crazy at 530am.... obviously the necessary chaos ensued, with nobody quite knowing what to do... the block opposite us (I was in the West facing block) were laughing their heads off as nobody was looking for fires, instead they all seemed busy to try and silence the damn bells, which incidentally kept going off at regular 15 mins intervals... it was obviously a failure of the system as they eventually pulled the plug from the wall and we all went back to bed... 630/7am circa.
Another one is the internet, ridicolous, that at regular inteval of 10 minutes all IP addresses are recycled, therefore being dropped from the system and having to forcibly logging in. I can understand the criteria behind this as they are discouraging people from streaming or downloading hence hogging the line, however they should have set up an auto-relogin instead of one having to open the web browser insert the IP addresses of the gateway and re-log in into their net. I work in IT so I did automate quite a lot of the processes however I can imagine the frustration of the average Jo. I am not even going to mention the coverage areas and the signal quality... as I am sure you can well imagine how appaling these were.
To conclude, the unconditioned sticky restaurant which was only used to eat breakfast seemed unable to keep the warm the food warm... they had no problems in keeping the ambiance hot and sticky but the food... nope. I eventually gave up the scrambled eggs and stuck with muesly, and the warmish milk and some really nice warm water melon and other fruits.
All in all an appaling experience, the hotel is wonderfully positioned and really new, the management is crap, and the services are cheap, not worth the money. If you can stay there for 300BHT a night, you are having good bargain, but anything more than 500BHT is dailight robberry.
HA... almost forgot, if you want to sit in the reception area you can forget it... all of the seating provided are more apt for reclining or indulging in casual frolicking than sitting confortably reading the paper... anyway who would want to sit confortably in a reception hall that runs at 35C with a humidity of 120%?
Bon Voyage to all and stay away from the Welcome World Resort (and non SPA as it does not exist).

Room Tip: If you must stay there, stay on the high floors of the west wing.

we had nearly same experience as Michael,I catch a cold because of ice cold air condition that can't be adjusted. This experience we never had in another hotel in Thailand.

The shower at the pool looks very nice but hard to use,the overall hotel looks nice because it a new hotel.

How they grade it to a 4 star hotel is a mystery to me, but here they are more flexible with stars.

I have stayed in this hotel for the second time within two months. I wasn't expecting much for a new hotel as I was certain new hotels will definitely need time to get their act together before we can start to experience the real level of service the hotel group wants us to experience.

The Positive:

I will first give credit to the hotel management for some improvements after my first visit. I guess the first feedback did play a part in helping them improve their services and besides, they are also willing to listen. This is important as I have personally experienced arrogant hotel management who treats their guests like money making trash.

Thank you for making towels readily available next to the pool and on the tanning beds. At least, guests do not have to make their way to the lobby in their swimwear to ask for towels from the concierge (They are busy and not at their desk for certain period of time). A new towel counter with a fridge containing soft drinks for guest order is now located next to the pools.

At the competitive room cost per night with such good hotel facilities (Big Pools) and basic service levels, it is pretty much worth your money.

The Negative:

After two stays at the hotel, I am still trying to figure out the hotel's "Standard Level for Customer Service". I have been experiencing inconsistent service from the staff. This does not reflect well on their performance which will affect the hotel branding as communications are not properly communicated to guests.

Some examples are:

1) Staff A will tell you towels are not available as the towel counter/Housekeeping is closed while Staff B may get you a towel by making the effort to go get it from the house keeping. This does not make sense to me since a hotel should have towels readily available.

It is a basic need not a want.

2) Calls for request to reception/house keeping are not fulfilled promptly. Sometimes it takes a few calls after quite a long time (1/2 hour minimal at least) to get them to respond to simple requests such as to top up shower gel/shampoo as the room was not made for the day which resulted in insufficient showering amenities.

Is this a case of insufficient manpower at the hotel? I recalled on the first trip, all staff were literally present at an event where almost every service counters at the hotel were closed and not man by any staff.

3) When the thermostat in my room as well as my friend's room next door were apparently not working resulting in freezing and unbearable temperatures, we requested for technical assistance at the reception. It took ages (more than an hour) for the technical staff to arrive. I was given the impression that they were clueless of why the air conditioning was not working properly, and the best part was, they left without communicating any conclusion or followup action that the hotel will be taking after very briefly (took 2 mins at most when they stepped in and out of each room) inspecting our rooms. What's the point of coming when you don't even bother to follow up? We have to personally request for room change when no action was taken at the end of the day as the room temperature was unbearable (The inspection was done in the early afternoon).

This is in my opinion a serious service failure.

Safety Concerns:

Though feedback has been given regarding the dormant wires in the swimming pool which is supposedly for the pool lights, the lights are still not installed during my second stay. This is a safety concern as these wires may cause injuries to guest if they step on it as the wires are long and left dangling at the bottom of the pool. I have personally stepped on it once.

It can also potentially be a serious threat to any guest if hotel staff or anyone accidentally switch on the connecting electricity switch due to human error. Imagine killing unsuspecting guests in the pool when they are swimming.

This is an immediate concern that should be addressed now and not later.

Facility Improvement:

Gyms/fitness rooms should be installed with mirrors. It is a basic requirement as people need to observe their form when training. How to lift weights when you cant see your form?

Having stated all the above, this hotel has a lot of room for improvement. I hope the hotel management is determined to improve. They should start first with proper internal communications between staff and guests so that service levels are standard and consistent, and then remove all hazards that pose a threat to life at the hotel promptly.

Room Tip: Higher levels seems to be the better options at this moment since those rooms on level one of the ho...

This hotel is a disappointment for start to end. On check-in they are asking for 3000 Baht in cash (not the usual credit card swiping). Probably hoping you would forget to claim it back. One building has no covered connection to the lobby. So when it rains you have to make it down a slippery ramp to reach your room. The room: ice cold air condition that can't be adjusted, flooding shower, no towel hanger, toilet right in front of the shower door (wondering how many will crash). The beds deserve some credit, very comfortable and cosy.
Service is not existing, the room was not made when we came back at 5pm and front desk was telling us housekeeping is nearby...
All the staff are wearing walki talkie with the volume fully cranked up so you can always enjoy some noise even when in your room.
The hotel is brand new, so you can blame missing service to lack of experiance. The location with beach accsess is quite good and the reason why I picked it. 4'000 Baht per night is just not worth it. The hotel is maximum 4 star with a lot of flaws. Most likely it will be filled with tour groups, so as individual traveller you will not enjoy it.
